West Coast are awful. Don't even look like scoring
North are smashing Richmond.
Richmond rivaling West Coast as worst expansion team, whereas I don’t think the Eagles have the talent Richmond just don’t actually really know what they’re doing on field and just look like they’ve been instructed to just give it to Brennan & get her to do it for them.

I think West Coast have the better team overall and while they are really being tested you can see that they have structured play they are attempting. Firewalker is spot on that their is no structure for Richmond and the squad they have put together is really putrid. Such a disservice to the AFLW and those players.

For me Freo are the premiership favs, they may not have left WA yet but their structure, skills and depth look better than most.

A really good article about Women in Sport and something that is considered taboo to talk about - https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2...tween-player-injuries-and-the-menstrual-cycle

From my own personal background I always knew I had to adjust my training in gymnastics during my period. I was less flexible and trying to do what I could do normally often resulted in a soft tissue injury occurring. This was something I put in place with my own athletes to get them to understand that there were changes in their bodies that would or could result in injuries occurring if they didn't modify what they were doing/understand their own body. It was a tricky conversation to have as most of my athletes were girls just going through puberty, so it always had to be a discussion with their parent first before talking with the child.

Not all periods are the same for women, so the results on how this will effect each athlete is going to make it hard for the support staff to eventually design programs for each athlete. It's going to take a huge amount of data and to get around the lack of women in medical trials is also an issue that needs to be rectified. So many drugs are only tested on male subjects and hence don't work the same on women which causes further problems.

60-25 and only midway through the third quarter. Highest score in the AFLW record looms (currently 86)!

Didn't people expect Richmond to be good this year? Or was that just a media beatup?

How long is it for the concussion test to take place? Isn’t it 20 minutes, if so Brennan should not be okay to come back on.
If so it means they didn’t do the test on her and the hit she got it should be compulsory to have taken place.

Been a very fun game to watch, plenty of scoring. And Richmond's fightback in the third added at least a bit of interest to the game.

Now Brennan is out for the rest of the game (as she should be) and Sam Lane is there to comment on injuries etc, so she should know the rules around it. She’s one of most useless sideline commentators of all time.

Watched the last quarter of Collingwood vs Melbourne (But god, that was painful with the commentators using it to talk up SoO - Which I watched a grand total of about 2 seconds of) all of Richmond vs Geelong and North Melbourne vs Gold Coast as well as the first half of West Coast vs Western Bullogs.

Competition has taken a step forward. I was most surprised with Gold Coast. Their gameplan is so basic but their defensive pressure hid the flaws in their personel. You wont know what to expect with them this year. They could win any game, as well as lose about any game.

Another good article from Kate O'Halloran on the disconnect between some of the old men footballers and the new issue for the AFLW being semi-professional. What isn't touched on in the article is the other issue of players with children. Doesn't matter if they are in a same-sex relationship or not, there is a hell of a sacrifice that female parents are asked to make between children and sport in view of the traditional societal requirements for child raising we have in Australia. Cramey has taken leave for this season from her job, Jess Foley switched to a GP clinic away from a hospital to make it easier for her to train and play. Was that a decision she made purely because she would prefer to be a GP or would she prefer to be a doctor in a hospital setting? By the sounds of it, it was made more to keep her working as a doctor but also to keep playing footy at the highest level.

My gut feel is that J Foley chose GP as a job to be able to play professional sport, as it has flexible hours that can accomodate for most lifestyles. It’s too hard to mix professional sport and become a medical specialist in this current era. And if she did choose GP as her main field, then you actually need hospital work as part of the GP curriculum (at least 1 year after internship).

point is they have created a national football comp for women with no strong grassroots comps. Then the AFL have increased the size of the comp with inferior players coming in. The good players are good but most of the players are very ordinary. I would expect a slight improvement into the 4th season. The AFL should reduce the amount of teams imho.
It’s definitely improved whilst adding teams. The AFL made the call to go with the elite league to help grow the lower leagues. Reckon they’ve gone about it the right way.

Geelong with a few quick goals in the third to take a two goal lead into three quarter time against Gold Coast.

It's probably better for us if Geelong win this match. It means that top three is still within our own control even if we lose to North. If Gold Coast get up and win they jump ahead of us on the ladder and then we're relying on them losing matches.
