Face value = when the trade was done. Do you think any other club in the league would have done that deal?
Yeah Collingwood wanted him but he chose us over them.

My honest opinion is yeah Hawthorn and Geelong would have got the deal done for their man. Club's like Essendon and Carlton would have said no and then sent out an email to their supporter base bragging how 'strong' they are at the trade table without every actually achieving anything

Yeah and they sure as fu** wouldn’t have won any flags. Would have been mired to the middle of the table. So not exactly a great example of not needing high draft picks, even though they did have five (plus the F/S picks) who were a big part of their rise in 2007.
Oliver Brayshaw Petracca Weideman Melksham Salem Viney Lever. 8 high picks on our list, if we are so far away from a flag that you think we need another 3 or 4 then we are f’ed anyway

Essendon have done much better at the trade table recently than we have, would love to have their record.

If Melksham and Lever count as high picks for us even though Lever was outside the top 10 and has barely played a game for us does that mean Brad Ottens counts for Geelong?

Essendon haven't won a final in 15 years. You can celebrate your trade wins all you want.
We won two finals against the two worst finalists of the year (other than us) after a year of beating largely bottom ranked sides. Don’t think we have many stones to throw. Essendon have played much better football against top sides in recent years than we have.

Right but you were saying Essendon were the trade kinds but it hasn't got them anywhere. Geelong have notoriously paid over for players to get deals done as have the Hawks.

True you’re right, we’re overwhelmed by talent.
Why you such a passive aggressive bitch at the moment?

We ain't gonna win s**t if we can only develop picks in the top 10 into good players. Considering Brayshaw Petracca and Weid are still not yet excellent players there's a fair chance whoever we took at pick 6 would be rubbish anyway

Who have Geelong paid overs for? They screwed Adelaide on Dangerfield. Don’t think any of Hawthorn’s deals were that outrageous given age of who they were trading for except Burgoyne, who at least had a flag and an AA and came sixth in the Brownlow in 2006 and 11th in 2007. But who knows, maybe they’d have found a pick 6 to trade for Frawley if we’d matched their FA offer

Stanley and Smith
Ottens was too much at the time
Ablett they got criticized for
Rohan

Hawks over paid for Burgoyne, Hale, Omeara, Mcevoy, Wingard etc

Besides if we keep being this s**t we will have plenty of top 10 picks to add in the next few years anyway.

At worst May is helping to develop Frost and Petty right now.

Wingard was easily the worst of the lot even at the time, awful trading. Would love to be in Hawthorn’s position of trading away late first rounders (except in the case of 22yo O’Meara and the elite Butgoyne) when you’ve already won a flag and have a significantly better coach. Maybe someday. Don’t know where May rates among those players but was probably almost the most expensive one.

He was still less expensive than Hogan so it was market rate
