I suspect most people on BF live in the suburbs of a city Ie a metro area , but not the CBD itself
Wow , 100km!!
How long does it take you to get to/from work each day ?
I don't know how you do it haha
Is there any reason why you haven't moved closer to where you work ?
A 100km commutes is probably less time than a lot of people's 30 and 40km commutes in Sydney and Melbourne.

Many years ago a mate of mine worked with a couple who moved from Sydney to Tassie to manage the RACT Launceston office. They decided to live in Devonport, 110km away, because they wanted to be by the beach and the commute was around half the time they were used to.

not really. know plenty of non drivers but they all live 10-15 minutes of the city.
For me though it would be impossible as I live 40 minutes away from the city.

Think its a lot to do with where you live. If your in the country or at a distance of 30-40 minutes away from your nearest city then driving is a must.

I live 50 minutes from Sydney and work in the CBD and don't drive. I have my licence but no car I just cannot be ****ed with Sydney traffic!

The older you get the further away your friends move. My high school gang who grew up in a 5km radius of each other now stretch between Airport West, Pakenham and Edithvale. I'm so glad we all drive, otherwise we'd never see each other.

Get some new friends, most people only have the fact that they went to school together in common with high school mates

Funny thing is I drive for the opposite reason of that.

I just can't stand sitting next to people on the train.

Lose lose situation.

Doubt we would still be friends 15 years later if we didn't have more in common than that, still play basketball every Wednesday night and catch up for meals every few weeks.

Solid effort, kudos. I've seen so many people cling onto friendships for nostalgia reasons with nothing in common. I'm 10 years out of school and still catch up with a few mates from a school but they're the guys I who did similar uni courses and work in similar jobs etc

Assuming you haven't experienced Sydney traffic in peak hour or in general? It's absolutely ****ed. Couldn't pay me to drive in it. If I was going against it maybe but sitting on the train reading a book or perusing here is much more relaxing

Driving wouldn't even be an option if I worked in the city.

Yeah, I live in cronulla and work in George street, driving would be hell. We have an office out at Villawood, if I end up out there I'll have to get a car.

My mother has never got her licence and considering she is as highly strung as she is, it's a good thing for everyone even if it did mean I was often inconvenienced as a kid growing up in a single parent household.

Living close to the city and working in the city means I could deal with not having a car or licence as far as Monday to Friday goes.

But family for both myself and my partner don't live especially close, and east or west of where we are- and on a north/south-running train line, that means that PT becomes pretty inconvenient.

So in summary yes, I would find not having a car/licence highly annoying.

I wonder if you take PT Mon to Fri, but then Uber the weekends, would it be costing more or less than the cost of buying a car, registration, fuel and those car air fresheners.

I guess it would, once you factor in the cost of car servicing.

You know what I really like about having a car though? The ability to go anywhere at anytime if I do please. Not just friends or family, but if I want to go to a beach three hours away, or the mountains four hours away. Or...you get my drift. PT will never be able to deliver this and I ain't catching an Uber to some far flung place intrastate or interstate.

You need a car in my region.

Actually at the moment you need a boat.

In laws are in Central/Nth QLD and have had a fun few weeks. Hope you have stayed safe mate

Pain in the ass, my mother in law doesn't drive, she gets by at times when something comes up its always who is driving me who is picking me up etc.

I told my wife when we started dating get your license or get a new bloke, she got her license and it was the best thing she ever did behind marrying myself.

Ended up out at villawood. Had to buy a car. Have to drive it. **** Sydney traffic

Moving in 4 months to a place that is within walking distance to the train station. I quite possible will not need my car anymore.

We might be a 1 car household. Sharing a car on weekends might end up being a bitch though

Finally got my license a while back. Not sure how I ever lived without it.

Gone are the days of wasting time walking home from work, taking long public transport rides home from uni and having to get public transport simply to go grab something from the shops.
