Melbourne dominated the first but played dumb football. Kicking long inside 50 again and again. Ditto poor goal kicking cost then a solid lead.

Second term they’ve been utterly boxed in and it’s purely by playing conservative football and not taking risks on the rebound.

I think the fan split has closed as Perth's population boomed and they did a better job than us at attracting new members. It helped them that they had spare capacity at Subi to sell.

I was 17 when the Dockers came in and a few I know jumped on board as a bit of teenage rebellion, being different etc. None of these were strong Eagles fans, just footy fans in general. Others were from Freo or surrounds and were pretty much waiting for them to get a team.

I know that I have given stick to freo on here but I used to support both teams genuinely. Obviously eagles more but watched every freo game and genuinely wanted them to win.

Then one day I was waiting for something and overheard this woman was also talking to her friend about being the same. Enter a dockers fan. He began to berate her, and she was just naive and was saying she likes both. He kept at it.

That was the end for me. Began to notice it more. Their jealousy and anger is striking. This has reached unhealthy levels.

I only want glendinning medal kept as it annoys them. That’s it. Apart from that, he means nothing to me. He is a north Melbourne player and he probably supports them against us. Objectively, you can see why freo would not want his name on it. I would hate that if roles were reversed.

And if renamed, I would not be open to maintaining glendenning name as our bit There are players that mean more to the wce fans. He just came over for a retirement package. Although if it’s cousins or mainwaring, I wouldn’t be open to that for off field reasons.

I am a fan of only one name. Surely we can choose a player with no links to either club. Two names dilutes it in my book. Although freo would fight about whose name is said first. That’s what u do when u r bitter, everything is seen as a battle.

So many dees getting sucked up into the contest and then they’re game enough to try and run the ball through that congestion. Structure up, trust your backs and give them something up the ground to kick at.

Flooding doesn’t equal pressure. It just means a low scoring game.

Fun fact - Richmond have beaten the bottom two sides and are currently beating the 14th placed side. They have also beaten the Hawks who are rubbish.
Yeah nah. I hate Richmond with a passion but they are incredibly well coached and I can’t see their small pressure forward set up being beaten in any high intensity match to be honest.

They’re designed to beat sides like ours who rely on kicking it long to a tall target and expect the opposition to do the same.

The whole club is a bunch of absolute flogs but I am envious of how they’re set up at the moment

Would definitely try to get Brayshaw over here if he was cheap. Looks quality on both sides and hunts the ball.
He’s a long way from his best as well. Has obvious qualities if his concussion problems aren’t too serious.

Feel Richmond have a soft underbelly. They've got Martin, Cotchin, Rance and Houli that really draw some more average players into the game offensively. If you break even in the guts and shut down those two defenders you'd gut most of their run.

That’s what I thought at the end of last season. But I can’t help feel that the whole club has bought into the system - they’re all B graders but they are so damn consistent.

Reminds me of St Kilda under Lyon and Collingwood under Malthouse

They do seem to play for each other. They all have their roles and they do them very well. Plus they have basically zero injuries right now. Which means that all those B graders have to play well to keep their spots.

Still not convinced they go back to back, even at 4-1. Adelaide showed they can be beaten when you make Rance accountable to a forward in form. The rest of the backline rely on him, you isolate the other defenders 1v1 & they are vulnerable. It’s easier said than done but his work rate to help his other team mates defend is second to none.

The way the seasons have been going of late- you just have to be in the best form going into September & you’re a chance. I hope that message gets through to us as well, even if this is a “transition” year. Our spine is good enough to pinch one imo.
