RTB hedge bets paying dividends already. Bennell and Sandi down injured lays the groundwork for soft excuses if it doesn't start happening for them down at Cockburn. Bell will find it harder to excise Lyon from things that he might like.

Delicious.

I can understand the re-signing of Taberner, he finally started to show consistent signs of good form in the 12 months prior to getting injured last year. Led the comp for contested marks in 2017(?) IIRC. It looked like it was finally clicking for him.

Personally like him, actually. Imagine trying to be a forward in a stagnant side like freo have been. It would drive you mental watching the ball slowly reach F50 only to be turned over time and time again.

What is surprising though, is the decision to sign him this early in the year, especially since he is now no guarantee of being best 22 now Lobb & Hogan are at the club.

Taberner and McCarthy will rotate between Peel as the year goes if there's no injuries IMO

There's also the other interesting case of Cox and if they play him in the forward line or backline.
Backline. Just needs to follow the ball and clunk it. Don’t imagine he’s got much forward nous and he’s a s**t kick on goal

Taberner will be FF.
Lobb will be CHF, chopping the ruck.
Hogan will roam all over the place.
Fremantle will continue to be awful.

I suspect Lobb may feel royally shafted when he finds promises of being a stay at home fwd with minor ruck duties, evaporates with Sandi's durability and Darcy's inability to run out games (esp against the more mobile rucking teams and with the 6/6/6 rule likely meaning rucks will need to increasingly drop back to fill holes).

Freo have had much worse FF options than Tabs.

So Grant Thomas has come out and said drugs like cocaine were rife at St Kilda back in 2006. What a shock.... We were the evil ones though.

We had really serious issues back then. Just because other teams also had issues doesn't change that. If our issues hadn't come to a head then, it would have been even worse down the track when it finally blew up.

The issue is that it's made out like West Coast problems were isolated. We've had several players completely ruin their lives because of it and the public fall out has been as sad as it has been spectacular. Our boys took it too far and thought they were invincible and stopped trying to hide it.

Other teams have had less public issues and players have been smarter about keeping it under wraps (injuction club did very well). I think it's fair to say it was this way before the 2000s with guys like Carey (coke, assault and who knows what else during and after his playing days) and Bomber Thompson (again who knows when he started given his previous association with the Weapon & co), GAbblett Snr etc... It'll continue this way well in to the future as well.

A good percentage of young men in our society with money, women and status whether they're footballers, bankers, sparkies or whatever will blow off steam in this way. As long as it's not impacting performance on game day my personal opinion is it's none of my business.

What's interesting is the Saints President at the time has previously admitted to taking drugs and making decisions while under the influence of alcohol. He stated very clearly he never took drugs with the players though...

Good perspective. Easy to just feel persecuted, but a bit of genuine self-reflection can be really important.

Ultimately it culminated in a change of culture and you campaigners know what happened next!

Hope none of our players are stupid enough to use knives to open a packet of...wait what?

How good is AFLX

I wish it would just die, never to return.

It's nothing but an utter bastardisation of the sport, amateurishly devised for transparently hollow financial reasons of desperation, because the ship had already sailed on the intended markets decades ago.

The regime under Gil has done one commendable thing for the sport: AFLW.

Now their bastard of AFLX that nobody wanted is again actively marginalising and competing against it.
