You can build around them though, especially if Young stays healthy. Add in Shai Bolton, Luke Jackson, they have a workable midfield.Serong and brayshaw both locked away...the least damaging mid combo in the league (of those aiming to play finals).

Some decent knocks
Here
Great post, summed it up nicely. Hoping there’s an established mid we can get our hands on as the primary extractor. Neale, Davies etc. If not there are a couple of good clearance prospects in the draft. From what I’ve seen during preseason, McCarthy is more damaging as a second receiver rather than a first possession midfielder - it takes advantage of his run and carry/evasiveness
It’s why many posters were keen for us to draft Sharp who seemed custom built for that extractor role. I’m happy we took CDT despite having a preference predraft to trade back to get Sharp and something else so I’m not going to be critical of the club, but I’ll watch Sharp’s development with interest
We do need to find someone who can consistently get hands of the ball first - Hewett has been doing that a bit in matchsims but I’m not sure if he has the ability to replicate that against better opposition
i think we have some options. Hall, devon, shoenberg, YeoFrom what I’ve seen during preseason, McCarthy is more damaging as a second receiver rather than a first possession midfielder - it takes advantage of his run and carry/evasiveness

Not his guernsey, that's for sure.Dev, he's the one for mine. Can see him extracting from the midfield and asking "who's coming with me?".
This, I think from all the training reports and media we have drafted best available players at our picks and that should be celebrated who ever they are. From what I’ve seen during preseason, McCarthy is more damaging as a second receiver rather than a first possession midfielder - it takes advantage of his run and carry/evasiveness

I think we need to be a top 5 mid from the draft & Neale.Great post, summed it up nicely. Hoping there’s an established mid we can get our hands on as the primary extractor. Neale, Davies etc. If not there are a couple of good clearance prospects in the draft.
Neale wont have a spot in the midfield in 2027 if things go as we expectI think we need to be a top 5 mid from the draft & Neale.
Neale is only 2 years tops, Davies is a solid B grade and that's not really what our midfield needs IMO.
Who would you rate as good clearance players from the draft?
I like A Van Dyke & K Edwards from SA as those types, knowing its early days.
The ideas that Neale wouldn’t have a spot in our midfield next year is laughable. Would be good for the team and good for the development of all our midfield kids if he joined.Neale wont have a spot in the midfield in 2027 if things go as we expect
Reid, Hewett, McCarthy, someone to play a defensive role(dev/Graham/whoever this is a role to fill), then Duursma, Gross, Hough/Starcevich potentially, Allan, etc will be vying for that 5th spot which is generally a lower TOG spot/rotation anyway
Harley and Hewett wont be kids next year so theyll be expected to play full TOG and hold their own with McCarthy.
Neale a 1 year deal tops, and he would be holding out that 5th rotation player probably
Disagree, Neale will be a 1 year play 1 year coach option with games triggers IMO.Neale wont have a spot in the midfield in 2027 if things go as we expect

I didnt say he wouldnt have a spot??The ideas that Neale wouldn’t have a spot in our midfield next year is laughable. Would be good for the team and good for the development of all our midfield kids if he joined.
Just means a kid isnt getting opportunity for another year.Disagree, Neale will be a 1 year play 1 year coach option with games triggers IMO.
If he continues to play at a high level then he may be required 2028.
All those players you mention will be better but apart from HR they are still a couple of years away from coal face full time mids.
Bringing in Neale for 1 year playing is not stifling the development of all those players, it will be enhancing their development, he is a 2 time Brownlow medallist and depending on Warner's 2027 plans he is a nessacity.
Warner is elite on the outside, balanced mid, Neale is elite at the coal face.
I didnt say he wouldnt have a spot??
I said it would take opportunity away from a kid, and a little unnecessary imo

just realised how I worded that beforeAhhhhh
Having said that I understand your point. I just think you need a deeper midfield than you laid out and Neale would be good for our results, and help develop the kids.

Hopefully dev/schoenberg can go the next level but even if they do a Hugh Greenwood, they’d help that midfield out. Greenwood had a couple years in the middle where all he did was just extract. Bulk tackles, huge number clearance and basically all his possessions were contested. His average disposal count was like 17 touchesi think we have some options. Hall, devon, shoenberg, Yeo
AVD, Edwards and I’d add Lucas Robinson to the mix. Needs to tidy up his disposal though.I think we need to be a top 5 mid from the draft & Neale.

Its why Neale is a no brainer for us if available next year. All it takes is one injury and you're extremely gratefulShit news, but their recruitment of Clayton Oliver is looking good now in hindsight
Tom Green down for the giants with a suspected serious knee injury in their intra club
God I want to laugh at this so bad, but reality is we have been their bunnies for going on 5 years now.Man, watching the replay of the North Intra club is pretty grim. Apart from the first 2 goals to JD, the rest of it looks like an extended version of that Carlton training drill the other week.
Fumbly, dump kicks to nobody, etc.
