Willie getting caught with pot at the airport in the middle of his suspension was my favourite.

Which isnt what happened so it’s not relevant…Okay, but from what I’ve read Rankine used the same slur multiple times over the course of the night.. imagine another player overheard it, didn’t like it, and reported it to Collingwood officials who then took it the AFL.
Play stupid games and you win stupid prizes. Using slurs in a space with 40 odd blokes of varying races, sexualities and religions is a bag of rocks for a brain thing to do.
Quaynor may very well have not been fussed, doesn’t mean there wasn’t someone that did find it immensely offensive, and they’re just as much in the right to report it and feel offended.
Where on earth are you getting the idea that at least a quarter of the competiton are gay? What if you're not openly gay like probably atleast a quarter of the competition. The ones that are openly gay which funnily enough isn't a single player probably are less likely to give a shit.
Qatar is a nation state, not a minority group...The only time that people like you pretend to care about one minority group, is when there's an opportunity to stick the boots in to another minority group.
Classy.

Education isn't inteligence -ask WillieI'm sorry but this is absolute bullshit.
The players are educated repeatedly, every preseason, every post season and ongoing throughout the season.
Fines mean nothing to a bloke earning half a mil plus endorsements.
The players have had every chance to pull this kinda shit out of their vocabulary and continue to fall short. Only thing that hurts them is taking away something they really value.
Docker supporter presumably. now wait a minute, are they a minority?Where on earth are you getting the idea that at least a quarter of the competiton are gay?
Was...was water off a ducks back

Not water off a ducks back anymore. The snowflake generation can't handle any criticism or feedback of a political correct nature let alone some light hearted banter, so when it gets nasty they lose it.
Broadly I agree but I have been places where it would pass as such. In relative terms I think 1-2 weeks would be about right. It's interesting that the AFL (and others) laud diversity as long as we all think and act the same.Don't think calling someone a f***** is 'light hearted banter' by any measure.
Read what I said.Don't think calling someone a f***** is 'light hearted banter' by any measure.
Depends on the context/group your around.Don't think calling someone a f***** is 'light hearted banter' by any measure.
It would be interesting in exactly zero ways.would be interesting if an openly gay player was like "Miss it straighty!!"
Maybe, players will finally realise that it's not just banter and inappropriate for their workplace.Depends on the context/group your around.
People have their heads in the sand if they dont think this sort of banter is around.
I particularly dont five a heck either way, but its funny its taken for a bloke to likely miss an entire finals series for the concensus to go "whoah thats a harsh penalty"
Obviously notMaybe, players will finally realise that it's not just banter and inappropriate for their workplace.
because clearly education on it's own wasn't getting it done.
You'd think the player and club that go hard on racists in the crowd every time it occurs would know better than thinking gay slurs were OK.

How’s it not relevant? I haven’t seen any articles that go into detail on how the incident was raised or reported. It’s as relevant as everyone in here losing their minds over ‘snowflakes’ and ‘woke’.Which isnt what happened so it’s not relevant…
Caucasian? How long until the "c" word is ban worthy
Players are repeatedly getting suspended and it keeps happening, so not that effective as a deterrent. My point probably poorly made was I think racism directed at an individual is more hurtful than a misdirected gay slur and I'm not sure the penalties should be the same.I'm sorry but this is absolute bullshit.

Back to AFL talk then...stolen from Reddit:
1997 - Played a 16th placed Demons and lost by 40, finishing 12th, 2 points out of finals, with Brisbane sneaking into the 8 on percentage over Port on 42 points.
2004 - Played a 3rd placed Saints and lost by 29 points, dropping out of 8th spot and finishing on 44 points. Essendon jumped into 8th with 48 points and would win its most recent final the following week.
2005 - Fremantle were 7th before the final round, the played Port who they had previously beat by 19. Port won by 45 points, taking 8th spot and Fremantle dropped to 10th, finishing on 44 points, 2 points shy of 8th.
2021 - Fremantle also needed other results to go there way, they needed to beat St Kilda and hope both Essendon and the Eagles lost, West Coast lost, Essendon played after them. St Kilda won by 58 points, jumping the Dockers into 10th, with the Dockers finishing 11th. Essendon then also won their match against Collingwood, making Freo miss the 8.
2024 - Fremantle had all results go their way and in the final game of the season took on Port, who sat 2nd. Port won by 20 points leaving the Dockers in 10th, 2 points shy of finals.
2025 -
Of course it depends on context but it's difficult to envision many workplaces where you deal with the public and using the term f***** is tolerated.
