But largely because our free kick count was being raised on a weekly basis as some sort of conspiracy that even opposition coaches were raising

We did. As those tables appeared often and there was squealing from coaches and media re the free kick differential.
I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for the same media/coaches to comment on that table or for it to "naturally" correct itself as the year goes on.

Why am I not surprised

We’ve conceded the most frees against (equal with North) but they’ve received the second most behind only Geelong (who’ve also conceded the least)

And if we raise it we'll be told of course we have a high differential, it's because of Harley! Never mind that he's 9-9 for the year with at least one of the ones against being incorrect per the afl.

The conspiracies are fun, but the three bottom teams being Hardwick/his former assistants is the most likely explanation. Richmond were always last during their run.

There will always be a team on top and bottom

The big difference here is all the teams from a certain state are all on top and teams not from that state occupy the bottom positions
The probability of this being a statistical anomaly is about the same probability as winning lotto

Surely the back to back premiers should be getting a game there.

Just checked the fixtures and 7 Victorian based clubs play there.
