anyone tentatively latching onto an aflw team yet?
Nup, but it's just as enjoyable watching Fremantle lose, no matter what the gender.

I watched the first half of last night and caught the end of this one tonight. I like it, it will develop and improve, although I think the ground size needs to be reduced. It's just too long and most of the players are not kicking beyond 30m goals from what I've seen. Shorter ground with 30m or 40m arcs would be great. Just not sure how it can be done unless they rotate the goals to the wings on oval grounds maybe?

You sound like such a pathetic victim
"wah wah, its sexist against men"
Grow up
A victim, no mate, you sound like an order follower, the worst kind of person in society.

See how that game works. Society naturally respects women and girls, no social engineering policy all the sudden made us respect women, I am a victim of free will whereas you HAPPY eagle are victim of ignorant bliss.

If you had half a brain to conduct your own research you would see that the pendulum swung past equality a long time ago.

Which mens national netball team do you follow?

Watched all 3 games thus far and yet to see a close contest.

Seems there's always one team getting smashed and incapable of scoring whilst the other team runs wild and every player gets called elite by the commentary team.

Liked the look of Randall from adelaide (actually recruited from WA) she's very skillfull and took the game on. Might ask her to marry me.

I found the fight enthralling . The 1st 30 seconds when the Ref said let go let go let go . The Ref had Greens arm pinned and his body also prevented Green from protecting at all times against a sleazy King hitting sniper . Green recovered remarkably whilst not 100% . So that was intriguing and I was so happy how Green fought , letting Mundine come at him and countering with heavy body blows . It was clear to me Green won the 1st 8 rounds . Mundine won round 9 with Green doing the Joe Frazier head bob up and down made him look cooked . Mundine couldnt capitalize on that poor defense by Green in that round . The betting odds went wild at this stage and it appeared Green may well be knocked out in the 10th . However Green came out strong in the 10th so the fight was very clear to me that Green won this fight .
Yes it probably should have been cncelled 30 seconds in with Mundine finishing his career fittingly as slimy character and Green Ironically ending his with the Coward punch he campaigns against . I found it enthralling and to say it wasnt the correct decision is ludicrous .
I would prefer a Green win over a mundine win any day but is Danny Green not the king of the Dick Punch?

What is that garbage technique of lowering your body to such a level that your opponent who is orthodox has a free hook at your unprotected fat head whilst you deliver an insignificant dick, thigh or stomach pad blow?

It was actually the most frustrating thing about that rubbish last night.

Danny is a great fella, but give it up champ, take the money and run.

I'm surprised how fired up some people are against the women's footy. A couple of guys yesterday were angry saying its BS and they are trying to be like men etc. Who cares. If they want to play footy then let them. If you dont want to watch then dont. The rest will sort itself out.
This. SO much this.

The fallacious arguments of false equivalence such as that of "men's netball" swooshacummings only serve to distract from the actual goals of this competition, and even then, they are merely straw man arguments at best.

They want to play. They have said that because there was no avenue for higher level competition they have switched to other sports.

I wonder if it's the same people who are worried about Soccer taking over Australian Rules Football as the premier code among youngsters who are against this AFL Women's. Possibly not, but gee if it's going to do one thing it will give young girls another professional sporting path to aim for.

I've enjoyed the couple of games so far, and am by no means saying I will tune in to every game, but give them a go because they want to play. The skills and competition will only get better.

Let it grow in and of itself.

I am not against womens footy, have watched it at times.

The argument is about pay revenue such as aligned with Scott Pendelbury article on negotations, I just so happen to believe that the male afl footballers who overwhelmingly bring in the profits will not get what they should and such things as equality and the womens competition (which will take 20 years to grow into a successful and self financing venture) will be used as strong positions of bargaining by the league.

It's a matter of principle, flows into all other areas of society, the people who's toil creates the wealth should always be sufficiently compensated, however we see far too often the management types and administrators earning the figures that the employees can only dream about.

You cannot be about commensurate pay for some employees and not others, even if they may only be athletes, it should be derived from who brings in what.

By Dick punch I think you may be referring to the body blows . the lowest dick punch on the night was done by Mundine and the ref let it go . The body blows hurt Mundine he was bent over for quite a while after one of them then he lowered his arm to protect and encouraged green to come at his head . Green fought a very strategic fight and he did a wierd Joe Frasier bob in the 9th and tried the old knock Ali out but it only made him look cooked . He abandoned that tactic and in the 10th round looked quite strong . Green landed a lot of body blows which won him the fight letting Mundine come at him was a strategy that worked well and I think a few people thought because Green was walking back and the countering meant Mundine was in control . This wasnt the case at all . Greens strategy despite the dog punch which woulkd have made it a fuzzy brain won him the fight . I can clearly see the reason 1 judge scored it 98 90 which is similar to how I saw it .

3 blokes that were experts judging the fight and I disagree with you and any expeert you havent named . My subjective view is that your view is Ludicrous .
Haha, erm.. It was two judges, one who saw only a a marginal advantage to Green, but I digress....Clearly you're a lot more invested in that fight than I was. I'll leave it at that.

I dont think anyone is suggesting the Women AFL footballers should get paid the same as Males?

Sorry to sound argumentative but even the judge that scored it a draw still disagreed with your view so it is 3 experts and myself and thousands of others on facebook that my wife tells me and I dont know their names tho they have their subjective view that disagree with your view that " Green didnt deserve to win it and it was a poor decision " . As for being invested in the fight I have seen some Batshit boring Green fights and I certainly didnt expect to get so invested but I saw a completely different strategic fight this time . I saw the fight retrospectively as well so didnt have the hopeful expectation . I had a more studied aspect . Mundine at full wits about him was still beaten early in the fight . That went against Mundine the fact that Green buckled to his knees after the illegal punch then soldiered on despite diminished power and wit . Fully accept everyone has an opinion and respect that but once again I stand by my view that it was a great fight by Green and was a thoroughly deserved win .

I would prefer to watch the national womens rugby 7s than an afl womens side . That Eagles Dockers womens game didnt do anythying for me . Would rather watch East Perth or a reserves Afl side than a womans afl . They just dont have the skill and power for mine . I dont mind them playing , good on them but I havent the time or inclination to invest in them .

It's not really about the level of skill at this point though imo, it's about growing the game and opening it up to new fans to generate more money for the AFL. If there is a top level women's league getting plenty of exposure you're going to get more young girls playing the game at the lower levels, who will want to watch games, spend money on team gear, which will lead to larger tv deals, bigger sponsorships etc etc.
Just let the boys play with the girls

Well if it's about pay revenue then as I said - let is grow as it will.

I wouldn't be an advocate for all of a sudden paying the women as much as the men in the AFL. That would be patronising to all involved at best and ludicrously unsustainable business management at worst.

I noticed a few pharmacy brands vying for advertising time during the broadcast on 7mate - if the revenue is there, it's there, and hopefully it will continue to flow.

With a broader uptake of the sport among key demographics over the next decade and the subsequent increase in skill across the board, I believe it will grow.

But it needs room to do so.
