Word is Mayne will net them a compo pick in the early 20s, they will probably just use that.
I seriously question a system where they get that - though in fairness, I should really be questioning a club dumb enough to throw cash his way.

Something to do with the amount and length of contract, and Collingwood for some reason want to give him 4 years. Mayne is maybe slightly better than Selwood yet we got shit all for him. Dockers lucky pricks.

I've said it before but FA compensation should not be tied to ladder position as that distorts things too much - leads to a system where Melbourne get pick 3 for Frawley but hawthorn only get pick 19 for Franklin. Or we get 37 for Selwood and Freo potentially get 22 for Mayne

Compensation picks should be given at the end of each round only or if they want another way to differentiate then the middle of each round. No way should they be tied to finishing position

Selwood was a club B&F and maybe isn't a better player

Collingwood ain't giving him 4 years either - they still haven't offered anything and the story quoting his manager said he's looking for 3 years

Scooter is a way better player than Maybe ever was so if they get pick 22 for him that is a masssssive win for Freo and now they can use that to help them with McCarthy.

If the dogs somehow win the flag this year from 7th it will be just like how Richmond won 9 in a row to play finals after being 3-12... we will never see it again in our lifetime.
The difference rhis year though is that the top 7 teams in the 8 were all so close with only a game and percentage separating most teams, although the Bulldogs did drop an extra game but don't think they turned up to play against the Dockers in the last game. But as you said very unlikely to happen again!

GWS did recruit very very well. GC not so much.
I think the talent pool was pretty similar, but GWS did get the mini draft which was four additional top ten picks once it was done.

Gold Coast's injury management (O'Meara, Swallow, Ablett) and the Bennell debacle has probably left them a further two players short of GWS now (If you balance out what those players will contribute over this year and the next couple of years either on the pitch or in terms of trade value to come back in).

EDIT: Add Dion Prestia to their injury management problems and wants out. I'd forgotten about him. They'll struggle to get full value for him in a trade given he has only played 22 games in the last 2 seasons.

I vaguely recall player interviews where they've said Simpson doesn't really savage them or get noticeably angry. Which, of course, is exactly what you'd say if you were scared as **** of making him angry.
"Say Simpson is good... or he will beat us"
"Why you little...haha no ones going to beat you...your gonna get such a beating"

Injured Dockers superstar Nat Fyfe's latest money-spinning venture is a brief trip to the US - courtesy of Hype Tours - for a "training block" where people can also pay for the privilege of watching a couple of NBA games with him.

Fyfe spruiked his end-of-season trip to the US with 7 News Perth – who have a contract with him - as part of a training regime to get fit for the start of the 2017 season
