Not that Geelong was the most enticing of grand final combatants having won 3 flags in recent years, but seeing the Swans up there year after year and given just about every possible leg up you could imagine is about as exciting as licking your own balls. I admit the fact I grew up in Sydney makes it more personal for me. We're going to get see the same from the Giants in years to come, but that might take a couple of years before the rumblings of gifted success become deafening (they've already well and truly started).
The best thing our club could do is erase 100+ years of footy history from the state and develop a massive bandwagon culture amongst our fans. Having a couple of extra million people live in Perth wouldn't hurt either. At least due to our financial position we have some sort of a chance of success by putting the right people in the right places off the field and giving our players the resources they need. I can't imagine how frustrating it would be for supporters of the smaller clubs.
It's not been a real competition for a long time now, and it won't be until the northern teams (or at the very least the two Sydney clubs) can be confident in surviving through tough times and they can then work within the same constraints all the other clubs face. Lets be honest - If the Swans or Giants (particularly the Giants) went through half a decade struggling on the field (as almost all clubs go through at some point) the club would be in all sorts of trouble.
Yeah yeah salty tears and all. Just finding myself pretty bored with the AFL "competition". Lets hope the Dogs can pull off a great sporting storing, but I doni't think they can beat both the Giants and Swans back to back.
