Allow me to explain. You see 'gawn' is a comical spelling of 'gorn', a fictional reptilian alien race in the Star Trek universe. The gorn memorably debuted in an episode that pitted one in a death match against Captain Kirk. As we all know, any alien that is pitted against Captain Kirk in a battle to the death has no hope of winning, its chances of continued survival are extinguished. Thus when someone jokes that Melbourne are 'gawn/gorn', they are comically referencing the fact that their chances of winning the flag this year are gone.

A genuine gun when he's on and although I despise the purple side of town and laugh at their recruiting and drafting errors I would never want any of their players have their potential ruined by injury.

Looks like Gold Coast actually won the trade.

This has got to be really concerning for freo. Shame for Bennell

Out for 8-10 weeks still
Imagine if, in 3 years time, we cheaply traded in a SPP with off field issues and then, almost 18 months later, the guy is still listed as 10 weeks away from debuting.

I personally wouldn't be able to contain the melts.

At least he's a mid and they're not exactly screaming out for one given they have Fyfe.

Is there a correlation between being a gun contested player and a gun clearance player. I always believed that those two went in hand in hand. This has no disrespect to rory sloane but was surprised how low his his clearance numbers were compared to his. Sloane has always been a very strong contested player and last year up there last year for contested possessions. However, his clearance numbers seem pretty low for a player of his calibre. eg: last year he averaged 25.22 disposals, 12.7 contested possessions (half his possessions) and 5 clearances. shuey statistically had a similar year with 25.91 disposals, 12.39 contested possessions and 6.57 clearances a game. The only player above him from the the most contested possession lto have less clearances per game was hanneberry and mitchell but both those guys have kennedy and parker winning bulk possessions. Sloanes contested numbers throughout his career have been elite concidering he averages in the low 20's disposals wise. But does this debunk my long held view of good contested players are good clearance players.

FWI Sloane killing it clearance wise this season with 8.33 clearances a game.

Sloane getting first hands and then feeding it out sensibly instead of slamming it on the boot for a "clearance" seems like a win win for the Crows to me.

With the amount of melt threads posted this week. If we lose to the swans this place will be hell.
I am expecting a loss. Sydney will be ferocious and there is nothing to suggest we will be up for the contest around the ball. Our one strength so far has been running out the games but on a 5 day turn around I won't be banking on it.

We will need to get off to a flyer.
