The washout from all of this will be the affected players taking civil action against the club and certain individuals. I would imagine that the ambulance chasers such as Slater and Gordon have already been in contact. If successful, the resultant financial penalties will cripple Essendon to the extent that the AFL (read the financially successful clubs including WCE) will have to contribute to a virtual "Save the EFC" fund. If this happens then the cumulative affect coupled with the propping up of GWS, GC, WB et al could break the back of the bloated AFL which would, hopefully, result in a clean out of the jobs for mates at AFL House and the trimming down of support staff at the clubs together with a re-look at GWS and one or two of the "VFL" sides.
Medium term we could see an uncompromised fixture where each team gets to play each of the others twice. (or am I dreaming?)

So just to get the timeline down pat, did Dimentriou announce he was retiring before or after these shenanigans began?

Everything the AFL did was with the objective of avoiding bans for the players because they didn't want an almost entire team found guilty of using a banned substance due to the damage it would do to their precious image.

They should never have been involved in the investigation from the start as it was all about controlling the outcome as opposed to finding the truth (they already knew the truth and feared the consequences)

Pathetic organisation that is borderline corrupt and as supporters we should be ashamed that it's taken an appeal by WADA to finally reveal the truth 3 years after the doping programme became public knowledge

It's actually harder to find competent sports administrators (e.g. FIFA, ICC). I wonder if you find more of them in women's sports because they have to work harder for the money and hence and perhaps more accountable.
Money and power

Administrators don't give a **** about integrity so long as the money keeps coming in

We just want to watch sport because we enjoy it and turn a blind eye to the fact that athletes routinely cheat.

Correct

Doesn't mean what I posted wasn't true though

The AFL is being brutally exposed today for the inept self serving organisation it is

Feel for the players but they could consider that they got off lightly in some regards.

Hopefully this will remove the caul from Bomber members eyes and they will proceed to cut the rotten head off the stinky prawn that is EFC.

Hopefully Woosha can do a good job of starting the rebuild process of the on field side of things over the next few years.

Jake Carlisle lols with the St Kilda folk at work this morning has been scintillating :D

[QUOTrward Press, post: 42594912, member: 122334"]Dunno about that, FIFA are pretty terrible.[/QUOTE]

True, forgot about FIFA. They definitely take the cake.

Makes you wonder what would have happened if Essendon hadn't dragged this out for so long. If they'd put their hand up at the start, said yep we've done the wrong thing and taken a 6 month reduced ban for co-operating with ASADA you'd think they'd be in a much better position than they are now. As it stands this season will be the 4th year compromised by this shit, our sport looks like a laughing stock and the players involved are now 3 years older and have achieved virtually nothing since.

I initially thought the same, but I don't think Monfries was that good the last few years, and Ryder is no gun. They'll still be up there, don't reckon it'll impact them that much.
I reckon they planned for it by getting Dixon who is probably better than Ryder anyway

The evidence clearly identifies the players were complicit in this whole saga. I don't have any sympathy for them.
I agree, I initially felt some sympathy for the players, but when you read the judgement it becomes clear that the players have themselves to blame as much as anyone. I mean, why would you hide the injections from Asada unless you thought you were doing the wrong thing?

Jeez you guys are very tough. How can you not feel even a modicum of sympathy for the players?

If you can believe what you read (I know, I know) some of them questioned the legality of it all and were assured that it was all good to go. Surely they could not have imagined that the club would put them in harms way.

IMHO the person who should bear the brunt of this whole disaster is the former god-like Hird. Always knew that there was a good reason I loathed him for all those years.

So I guess we should be applauded for booing Watson, then?

I'm gutted for Myers - he's a fantastic person and wouldn't have done anything untoward. He loves that club and he must feel so betrayed and sick in the stomach. Hopefully he comes back and has a great career post-2016.

Not going to disagree with you about golden boy, he should be banned for life.
But if the players truly believed that what they were doing was above board then why did they omit the injections from the doping disclosure forms? For me that indicates a deliberate effort on behalf of the players to hide the fact that they were being injected with something not quite right.

Surely you would find out what someone is going to inject you with. Also if they were told it was all fine then why didn't they declare it when tested individually? Sounds like they were told to keep quiet.
