I'm hoping they stumble towards the end like the Saints did the year they won 18 straight.
It's a long season and McPharlin is the only best 22 player they're missing atm. Given their midfield dominance it's not like they're relying on him to have an impact either.

I know Crowley and Dawson (both best 22 last year) haven't played all year but, perversely, thats been a blessing in disguise for them as Freo are a more attacking and creative side without them

They are certainly setting themselves for a serious flag tilt this year so far and are unquestionably the form side of the comp

It's weird that Dockers over 30 players are still playing at such a high level. Our guys usually fall off a cliff by that age. Luck, superior management or magic juice?

Probably mostly because of the system they play in. From memory the Swans had a lot of pensioners that were excellent and the way Freo play now isn't that far removed from how Sydney used to be.

Good management but also a fair bit of luck with their great injury run they are having.

Yeah I have been thinking this for a while.

I think it's because they haven't had any success.

Our blokes - I suspect - would have dropped off earlier because they felt like their job was done. I reckon Cox's last couple of years would have been a much higher standard if he was still hungry for a premiership

Bulldogs are a lot of fun to watch. I like to think we look as free flowing.

Beveridge and Simpson probably share the Hawthorn philosophy.

BTW, how interesting is is that the best coaches all have a particular style - those coming from Sydney and those coming from Hawthron.

It's the recipe for success, and it's starting to show at West Coast and at the Bulldogs. No doubt there's a long way to go for both teams but there has definitely been a Hawthorn-like influence on both.

Only the Doggies have a number of mids with real genuine pace. Jong/Johannisen/Wood/Dahlhaus all break the lines really well.

We are one more inside mid and one more line-breaking mid away from being complete IMO. Hopefully McGinness and Waterman are those players.

Fyfe is having some game
This'll sound a bit weird but Fyfe is almost too good for Fremantle today.
Several times he has broken free up the ground from the play and would've been a major proponent in a scoring chain but his teammate fumbled the ball or turned it over.
He's had 13 contested possessions and 7 clearances and still going at 100% disposal efficiency.

Our attack off the back line is really impressive with Wellingham Sheppard Bennels pace and Butlers and Hurns good use by foot it's a joy to watch !!

Need to find a way to get Bennell running further up the ground rather than being stuck in the D50 one-out with a forward (worry when this happens).

Would prefer Bennell rebounding more with Nelson staying back as a lock down defender (for the time being).

I don't think we're getting the most out of Bennell still.

Definitely whatever Simpson has done with Wellingham was a masterstroke though

I would be very interested to see Fremantle play a strong side without Fyfe and Sandilands.

They cover for injuries really well, and have great depth, but these two players are absolutely their trump cards
