So from the AFL fan footy survey, only 57% of the public want Jobe Watson's Brownlow stripped from him.

Pending the appeal, he was found to have taken a banned substance in the year he won the medal, isn't that pretty much an open and shut case as to why he hands it back?
I do not think he should hand it back, it should be stripped from him. The Russian athletes did not hand back their gold medals, they got taken away.

There's a reason the AFL is dragging this out, so that on Grand Final morning when they make the announcement that they're not going to strip him of it everyone is already sick of it and moved on. "Time heals all wounds" and all that. Just like how no one thinks our 2006 premiership is tainted any more.

To be fair, I can see why they'd hold off on a decision while there's an appeal pending.

It'd be a bad look if they take it off him, then the Swiss court overturns the bans and they have to give it back again.
The 43% are saying he should still keep it even if the appeal fails. If they win the appeal yeah keep it, but it's a no brainer for mine if they don't win it.

A geelong supporting fb friend posted a geelong article on scott selwood nearly available for selection. The comments wow!!!! They are in for a shock. An upgrade on motlop was the pick of the bunch
Nek minnit he chops up and we start a thread about how much our current side needs someone like him. And Ebert. And Stevens.

(Only a tiny bit serious)

I can only assume there are plenty of Brexit jokes being made about this.

Is this a bigger upset than Japan knocking off South Africa at the Rugby World Cup?
Muchos Brexit jokes.

Not sure about rugby, but unlike Japan we're talking about a country with a total population FIVE TIMES smaller than Perth, beating a team full of blokes getting at least £5 million a year to play in the Premier League.

And they're now two games away from the Euro Final.

You might expect anyone with the smallest dash of ethics and respect for the game would vacate the position while the investigation went on. You might expect the player named "Fairest and Best" in the league to have a small dash of those character traits.

But not Jobe. He's bigger than that.

It's not a matter of "vacating a position", it's giving back an award.

He's maintained his innocence throughout and is continuing to do so through the appeals process. Handing back a medal from 2012 wouldn't be necessary to demonstrate his "ethics and respect". In fact it'd probably be taken as a sign of guilt.

There's no urgent need to take the medal off him, so there shouldn't be any issue with delaying the decision until after the appeals process has concluded.

I totally disagree on the bolded :)

I can see merit in your argument that the AFL should let due process run it's course before stripping him of the medal, salting his fields and burning his house down.

Yeah he's paying $9 .... If Sicily kicks 40 to 45 goals would be hard to look past him..Hogan kicked 44
Didn't help Ben McKinley when he kicked 42 in his RS year...finished 6th overall behind the superstar of Freo...Ibbotson (although to be fair that year they also gave the gong to Rhys Palmer ahead of both Rioli and Cotchin, so clearly the panel wasn't about to start looking at things like "goals" or "performance" in making their decision)
