Would be stupid if Freo did do it more than likely GWS just asked about him, I'm sure Freo wouldn't give him up
It was, the Cal Twomey 'report' here is a re-run of the same (unconfirmed but certainly probable) report that GWS were asking for Walters as part of the package to get McCarthy the previous trade period. I can't find the original link, it's somewhere in that abortion of the Cam McCarthy thread on our board - not digging back through that thanks..

I imagine it'll either end up being a 3rd in 2016 or a 2nd in 2017 (which probably makes a lot more sense to GWS given their pick situation this year). Assuming Cam is not cooked.

McCarthy will go for a second rounder IMO

Where Freo get that second rounder is the big question as they gave that up for Bennell.
Well according to some they could get an end of 1st round compensation pick for Mayne

And I'm not even joking

Anyone noticed how Freo were all pissed and outraged that GWS didn't trade McCarthy because his mental health issues and well-being. But now they're like "3rd round or f off" type attitude. Doesn't sound like they give much of a toss about his mental health now

GWS misread the McCarthy situation so badly it's not funny

Why they basically refused to trade a player that clearly wanted out is beyond me

Yeah that would have been hilarious if Freo gave up 2016 and 2017 first rounders for the piss head
I don't think they can because they gave up a first rounder for nostrils Bennell last year. Don't think the AFL allows you to do it two years in a row.

I thought they put that offer on the table for McCarthy before they traded for Bennell.
Correct. In hindsight gws be kicking themselves. Well probably not actually, whats 1 more first rounder to them...just help to stack the neafl. Probably just having a good ol troll of everyone

I would give GWS a second rounder to beat out Freo for McCarthy. We really need to look to the future for a key forward as JK isn't getting any younger!
I'd be wary of picking up McCarthy given the somewhat valid accusations that we're soft as he doesn't look the type to alter that perception

Reportedly hasn't kept himself in shape either so you'd want the club to be doing its due diligence thoroughly

Also assumes he'd even want to play for West Coast as I understood he was set on playing for Fremantle

Stealing him from under freos nose does have a certain appeal though

I guess the only other consideration is whether they 'took a hit in this instance to gain a longer term benefit'. With hindsight, McCarthy was clearly an extreme case where leaving GWS was not just a hollow threat (and GWS probably should have known that at the time rather than just with the benefit of hindsight). But with the exodus from Brisbane in recent years, perhaps the precedent that it sets is more important.... or perhaps GWS just completely stuffed up. We'll never know, just throwing a potential counter-point out there.

I'd accept the taking a stand argument if they hadn't traded a small army of players to Carlton and treloar to Collingwood last year or if Fremantle were offering peanuts - GWS seemed to just flat out refuse to negotiate which seemed odd at the time and even stranger with the benefit of hindsight

If we're the better offer it would still get his ultimate goal of coming home though. Depends on if he's professional enough to want to play for anyone else other than Freo or chuck another tantrum like he is now.

Elliot Yeo wanted to come home and play for Freo, but we managed to un brain wash him and he saw the light.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought it helped convince Yeo that the dockers only showed limited interest in him

You'd think that playing in his own state would be enough but only he knows how much he wants to play for Fremantle. Bear in mind also he'd be behind JK and JD for a game and wouldn't be guaranteed a game like he would down the road

We need a a proper second tall as Darling isn't really up for that role. Mcarthy is agile enough to be able to roam around the ground.

Darling Mcarthy Mid
Cripps JK Hill/Lecra

Would also slim Darling down and build up his tank so he can roam up the field more and maybe up and wing for some periods.

Are you forgetting Taberner and ...?...?... Nevermind, I can't even form an argument when I'm trying to do it as a joke.

Also finished the article with this gem

A new look Dockers forward line next year is already headed for replenishment with imminent signing of disgruntled Greater Western Sydney goal sneak Cam McCarthy.
How can the signing be imminent when he's still under contract and since when was he a goal sneak

Not sure how this clown gets paid

True. How about going after Rory Lobb instead of Mcarthy next year?
Yep would be very keen on Lobb too. Hardie on 6pr has mentioned a few times both teams are very keen but he seems to think he wont want to come home as we didn't chose him in the draft a few years back.

I just read in an article on the AFL website about Jason Ball being the only AFL player to come out and admit to being gay. I didn't even know he had

It isn't that Ball, and he was not an AFL player, just a suburban footy player.

It's a different Jason Ball - this ones a player from one of the Victorian Country Leagues

Took me a bit to remember and I was wondering why it wasn't bigger news that he'd come out then recalled the country footy player doing it. Didn't realise his name was Jason Ball
