Thanks for quoting me across boards. It was the Eagles third oldest team ever (it was the Hawks oldest).

Your injuries have been overplayed, IMO. That I stated on the Freo board. If you don't like that opinion that I stated there, bring it up there.
You have different opinions on different boards?

Where are your stats to back that up?

I highly doubt a team with no over-30 players last night just fielded their third oldest team ever.

I don't agree and I'll bring it up on my board to discuss with my peers, because quite frankly our injuries have not been overplayed in any way.

You wont agree, I wont agree so we'll leave it at that.

Good luck in your slog fest today, hope the nerves are settled.

Hate to say it but it's simply amazing what Simpson has done with that team this year.
Kram81 Appreciate that mate.

Good luck today, nerves holding up? Terrible weather.

A bit nervous now after seeing the Eagles steamroll Hawthorn last night, wanted them to win last night but not quite like that  Lose today to an undermanned Sydney and we are finished.

I think you've got them covered.

From the stats board:
Week 1 of finals is Oldies' Week. Teams as named:

- Hawthorn's most-experienced and oldest team ever
- North Melbourne's most-experienced and second-oldest team ever
- Fremantle's second most-experienced and second-oldest team ever
- West Coast's third-oldest team ever

Average games played for all teams 122.3, average age 26.31.

Previous highs for EF/QF weekend were set last year - 116.6 and 25.92.

With McGinnity in for Priddis the average fell from 25.83 to 25.65, third-oldest to fifth-oldest.
Surely a team that had Priddis, Cox, Lynch, Waters, Nicoski, Adam Selwood, Embley, Glass would have been older even just for teams in recent memory?

These seem like some highly dubious stats. I can't back up my assertion but I wouldn't be surprised if some error has been made here.

19 teams between 2006 and 2011 contained all of those players. In 2011 only Glass, Embley & Cox had reached 30, just. Balanced out by Darling & Gaff (18), Shuey, Swift, Naitanui, Sheppard (20), Selwood & Ebert (21), etc.

Thanks, can you tell us what round the top 3 oldest were coming in to last night? Find that really interesting.

It's possible there are errors, but they can only be with the DOB's. I check these manually each year against those in the AFL Record Season Guide.

e.g. Hawthorn's team from last night

You can find the age of each team on match day at the AFL tables site, e.g. http://afltables.com/afl/stats/games/2013/101820130621.html

If you can find me an older Hawthorn team than the above, I'll buy you a copy of next year's Season Guide. ;)

So Ron do you have a list of oldest team from any team?

Last night's Hawthorn team ranks 33rd. It was the fourth-oldest ever outside the period 1919-47, after two 1904 Collingwood teams and one from Port in 2005. Ages were pushed up during wartime/post-war.

I'd back Ron The Bear over your assertion.
yeah fair enough. it just struck me as odd. Particularly given hawthorn's early 90s team containing a 37yo Tuck and all those other established stars
