It shows that the AFL is still evolving from a boys club to a professional sporting organisation, and that it still has a long way to go.

From Demetriou trying to warn them they were being investigated to the AFL tribunal throwing the case out with a 'Nothing to see here" it's made our administration look very dodgy. The AFL tried their best to get Essendon in the clear but it took an independent authority to get the job done.

Everything the AFL did was with the objective of avoiding bans for the players because they didn't want an almost entire team found guilty of using a banned substance due to the damage it would do to their precious image.

They should never have been involved in the investigation from the start as it was all about controlling the outcome as opposed to finding the truth (they already knew the truth and feared the consequences)

Pathetic organisation that is borderline corrupt and as supporters we should be ashamed that it's taken an appeal by WADA to finally reveal the truth 3 years after the doping programme became public knowledge

It was poorly handled by the AFL but the players must also take some responsibility for their actions (or lack there of). They are implicit in this too.

Great post. Best thing about this, IMO, is how bad it makes the AFL look. Perpetual carpet sweeping has caught up with them...finally.

PS - should we do Woosha a solid for old time sake and let him have McGinnity for the year?

It's actually harder to find competent sports administrators (e.g. FIFA, ICC). I wonder if you find more of them in women's sports because they have to work harder for the money and hence and perhaps more accountable.

I feel no sympathy for big mouth flogs like Vitamins McVeigh. Disappointed we don't get 2 games against Essendon this year, none of the teams that do will end up doing anything anyway though.
