Lol at North. Just got rid of their best player. Muppets.

Do you reckon? I think its common sense, if not courageous. If they were going to challenge it was this year. It all had to fall into place this year or they were bust. Yes, they could probably squeeze another year out of Boomer, and possibly Dal Santo, but for what? They'd end up mid-table at best, with quite a few teams below them looking much likelier to overtake them in the next year.

They know (and let's face it we all knew) its time for regeneration of their list. Why wait to have it slammed in your face (if it hasn't been already) before making the inevitable move to re-building?

I dunno this reeks of them growing a spine and making hard decisions. I don't like when teams do that because they might become successful. I prefer them to play favourites "Lets get Pav to go around 1 more time" "Boomer is still able to run into an open goal at his age? lets give him another year then" as they are deluded into thinking if we can just get other players around them right.

I remember when StKilda still couldn't beat the best teams in 2008 and it was Bangers Harvey last year and people were still saying he is their best mid what are they going to do. Nekminnut GF without him.

Emotional attachment to older players that are still producing something remotely to what they used to can get a club in strife and that is where North have been for some time now. "Its all of the youth's issue if only they could be good like the older guys".

Oh I understand that they are doing the right thing with the other 3 but Boomer wins games, trains better than most and still reliable and in form.

What? You smokin' bro?

No, thank you. And on a 2-year contract? Hell f***ing no.
Chappy, Stevie J.

Id have him. Still a little campaigner though.

Different scenario though don' you reckon?

Stevie J I'll give you. Great year, in their best possible outcomes, this would have been the year they would've wanted from Stevie. But it's a reasonably young team, that needed some experience and X-factor in the forwardline. He has delivered. But unlike at North, Stevie hasn't been one of their best players. He has played a role. A valuable one.

Chappy.. great start to the year, but he went off the boil a bit. For a team that was scratching its arse just to put 22 blokes on the field, he was a saviour. Big body to protect some of the younger kids in there and gave them a whole lot experience they were sorely missing.

Harvey, no doubt has had a good year. Has been a matchwinner at times. Much better than I would've thought, and could go around again, I'm sure. Most definitely a no-brainer for this year, when they would've thought they had their best chance at getting to the big one. They won't make it, and they certainly won't make it next year with this list, or the next, so he won't be in their next premiership team. In the end, all he will do next year is keep a young kid out of the team, so why bother? The only value I see might be that as you say, he is a phenomenal trainer and preparer, and the kids could learn more than a thing or two by being around him.

And you're spot on about him being a campaigner too. :)

The timing gives fans a chance to attend their last game in Melbourne which is most likely this week, so I can understand it from that perspective.

Yes they have nothing to lose by the early announcement and might even give motivation and incentive to halt the losing slide ,to dedicate the next few games to see these guys go out in style .

First thoughts on booma, don't like him (just because he is north) but a good small froward.

would he pass on football smarts?? We need more

Just imagine Harvey and Ballantyne running around the same forward line! The cup.would be ours to lose!

People are saying Harvey should be allowed to call time on his own career. Can anyone see him ever retiring?

Nope. He's the campaigner that keeps on campainging
