Pretty controversial overturn for the goal. I can’t say from that footage it was clear either way. I thought the rules stated that if the evidence was inconclusive it’s always deferred back to the goal umpires call.

Can’t say I feel comfortable with such a 50/50 call being made by the third umpire on such inconclusive evidence.

I couldn’t care less that Richmond are knocked out but I don’t want to see such crucial games decided like that.
Ya not wrong. **** it feels good that tigers are finally on the end of one of those calls though. Although it is pretty whack. Be interesting to see if they had a different angle that wasn’t televised as I’ve seen that happen in previous games

Lol @ the tears over the overturned goal.

It was a behind live, Lynch knew it, everyone knew it. That goal umpire can have a rest for the next 3 weeks thanks.

Maynard was blocked

Melbourne playing Brisbane next week at the MCG, having lost in an upset to the Swans... Oooo man that could shatter all sorts of finals records.

Make it happen plz.

Reckon Lynch deserves props for his honest reaction, tbh. Didn't try to feign anything once it went to review.
I doubt after 4 quarters of running around many players have the energy to fake a reaction like that .

Lynch's kick was a behind for mine. Came off the boot all sorts of wrong. I was surprised the goal umpire thought it was a goal and equally surprised the angle from behind him showed it going over the post.

One thing Richmond do very effectively is their half forward flankers sprint out of the 50 to pressure the opposition to stop them running it forward by hand. Absolute desperation. Saved a few guaranteed clean rebounds by winning HTB or forcing scrubbed kicks. Complete opposite to our forwards.

I agree with this

That said I’m not convinced the umpire made the right call - Lynch wasn’t confident at all and he had probably the best angle of anyone
Agreed but that's the point. I don't think anyone was confident on the call but the Goal umpire called it a goal and he was technically in the best position to adjudicate.

If the footage cannot overrule his call then the decision must lie with him, not some bloke up in the nosebleed section scrutinizing crappy footage from limited angles.

At least the goal umpire was on the goal line looking directly up as it traveled past.

I couldn't care less the the Tigers are out but if that was us right now we'd want to burn down AFL house and we'd be calling it a Victorian conspiracy to rob us. :laughv1:

Much better to see games decided by the umpires handing it to one side on a platter.

That free against Daniher for unrealistic was a joke. Ran a straight line at the footy and the Richmond bloke just cuts across his bow.

Bolton not getting whistled when he got caught. Matheson collected high picking up the footy i50 and getting nothing.

Score review is just another tool in the box for the league to manipulate the product.

You can see a moment on the review with the ball in line with the post on all three frames at the same time, that's not mathematically possible unless it's literally over the top

Kind of a weird ending. Lynch miss and then clumsy giraffe Daniher with the perfect crumbing reaction. Zac Bailey was awesome. Happy with the result!

One of these days Ump one of these days, bang! zoom! Straight to the moon!

Not arguing any of that or the quality of the umpiring in general tonight.

As far as our review system is concerned it's a disgrace. The AFL is not prepared to invest the money required for 4K imaging with advanced zoom and slow motion technology and to install them in positions that would eliminate most of the guesswork.

That's why no one can definitely say whether that was a goal or not.
