Here you go Obeanie1, little wrinkle for GC.

As first flagged by The Age on Wednesday, AFL rules state a club can’t match more than two bids on academy prospects in the top 20 of a draft if, in that same year, it makes the finals and is eliminated prior to preliminary final weekend.

A club, too, is restricted to matching one first-round academy bid if it’s among the last four teams remaining in the finals.
What a weirdly convoluted rule

And the 'poor season after getting thumped in a grand final the year before' streak continues.

We won 16 games in 2016 - a game and % off 1st and % off 4th. In 2015 our 16 wins and a draw was good enough for 2nd

Fine margins and our elimination final loss to the Bulldogs masks that we weren’t that bad

Sydney have already lost more games this year (7) than we did in all of 2016. They’ve been one of the big disappointments this year

Not as dissapointing as carlton. For their supporters, not us.

Geelong have been one of the other big disappointments. I would love to see both miss the finals. A dream league for me would be where a grand finalists can be bottom 4 the next year and a bottom four team the previous year, a grand finalist in the next.

It would also be nice to see Sydney, Geelong, Richmond and us miss finals. Would mean some of the less successful clubs are getting a turn.

Anyone been following the Port Hinkley thread. How has that gone since the "He should be sacked" win over sydney, (9)? weeks ago...
I did not realise their winning streak, somhow zoned out hearing about it in whatever relative poddy.

There are still mostly people who are saying "weve seen this before". They are waiting for the inevitable finals flop that has been a hallmark of the Hinkley era. And they are getting scared that due to the good turn in form that there might be an extension on the cards soon.

Tonight is a bit of a loss loss for both teams from a bigfooty pov.

Dogs win - it's just Port who are pretenders.
Port win - it's just the Dogs who are flakey as hell.

The only good scenario would be Port thumping them.
