Only just realised he was pick 2 in the 1994 draft. Side note - that draft was pretty strong, not so much in the first round but quite a few successful long term players taken throughout that t draft overall

The paternalistic attitude they show towards Port is insane. They literally barrack for Hinkley and dismiss every supporter criticism of him as the whinings of a little SANF club that doesn't understand what the big VFL takes.

Whately embarrasses himself on the regular with his Ken fangirling. The rest openly talk about what a great guy Kenny is, how Port is lucky to have this Victorian failson.

Port supporters are stuck in this bizarro, Kafkaesque hellscape. The schadenfreude is too delicious for me to have much sympathy but I would have checked out years ago as a Port supporter.

This is exactly it. Listening to them talk about him like he is some master coach who you cant judge solely on results as he looks at the bigger picture more than regular coaches.
Longest serving coach to not make a GF and that is after having 2 home PF's. Numerous years out of finals as well as surprise finals losses (2017 ).
It feels like they've been topping up forever and never quite getting there. That 13 (?) game winning streak was like a dagger each week to those wanting change and the more the wins flowed the more they knew the inevitable re-signing talk was going to happen.
The fact that Koch said wait until August and then they go on that winning streak until August and then lose a few games in a row when its being believed that the announcement is just waiting for another win to be made (chef's kiss).
