I posted positive on their thread and copped the typical brain dead druggo response. No ******* wonder people get pissed off with some of their nuff nuff mentally *ed ferret brained supporters

The Boyd discussion should be around whether he's been just about the most over-paid player in AFL history - One million dollars from year three for a player who is just AFL standard is outrageous - Much discussion about Watt's career as a failed number one draft pick but he's got a bit on Boyd.

Was an unique situation with him though. I think the AFL was behind his huge contract. They and Giants were worried about player retention.

Lance Franklin had a year or so earlier been expected to sign with the Giants and AFL was fuming he signed with Swans.

So yes it was a ridiculous contract for such a young player, never been done before. But just another screw up by AFL, and they were responsible for putting a shed load of pressure on a young kid.

Salary cap implications are interesting. If they wipe his salary from the cap does it open the door for abuse of free agency down the track? Player leaves on a monster deal a team can't match, player has no intention of seeing out the contract

The Franklin rule probably covers that. No one would have expected Boyd to retire at 23 - and no young player would sign a deal with that intention - where Franklin could obviously pull the plug halfway through his decade.

He was but he was a key cog in getting them into a GF and then winning it. It is too bad so many people had to comment on it. He never said I want that much money but he was hardly going to turn it down.

And we decided to draft the flanker

We went for the one that literally could not miss, GWS had the luxury of picking the one with the highest upside but the weakest exposed form because they’ve got high draft picks exploding out of their arse.

We did the right thing

Every year players stay at their club for less money then offered elsewhere - Actually far more players stay at their club for less money then move for less money - Boyd was an outlier.
