Pies really benefiting from the dude based economy. Picks are great, but dudes that are ready and can compete now really, really help.

Cameron, Lipinski, Kreuger, Daicos arrived ready, add Carmichael now who is probably next cab off in that midfield rotation. Great balance and affords Mcrae actual options.

That they can have patience with mcinnes, poulter, draper, macrae and co be pushing the 8 after pushing out a high draft pick and expensive trade acquisition is a bit damning on us.

Suns just got totally reamed by the umps.

It’s not really, a number of their better players today were vets that pre date even the Buckley era or father son/academy pot lucks. They got Adams into the club by shipping Shaw out.

If there’s any kind of lesson there it’s ‘go back in time and make sure we don’t get stripped of draft picks and ignore the fact that Gumbleton is the right player to pick because his back is about to spontaneously combust’.

They just flat out have more stuff.

Id argue they have a fwd line more cobbled together than our backline.

Another club with strong competitive pedigree.
Pendles, steele, adams, crisp, maynard - play with desperation. And it rubs off on their kids.

So 150 game and beyond senior leaders with ingrained norms that Macrae has had nothing to do with?

We’ve got neither really, Rutten is still trying to establish the norms and he doesn’t have the leaders to set the example.

I think we're agreeing but im doing a poor job of it :p

You're right. Our foundations are so poor, it's any wonder we're struggling. Where are our senior players? Mostly cooked, or retired.
In a phantom way, we've gone about what the Dees and Roos did early in their build and lost a lot of experience. feels we did it unintentionally to an extent.

Collingwood's team this week had an average games played of 106.4

Our was 73.6. West Coasts was 121.5.

The only team less experienced than Essendon's this week was Adelaide.

The idea Collingwood are rolling out a young, rebuilding side is a bit of a misnomer.

They were about the 6th most experience side fielded this week, behind Brisbane, Sydney, West Coast, Richmond, and Geelong (in that order).

So if it makes people feel better about our game, West Coast were an incredibly experienced side this week, 3rd most in the AFL. They're a totally different side to the first half of the season.

No matter how s**t WC are this season, if you give their experienced players the freedom to play like we did, then they will have the talent to take the game away from you.

They're not that s**t, that's the problem.

Their first half was woeful; they had massive player outs due to COVID, then some injuries, then some generally not giving a s**t. Since the bye they're much better, they'll push a lot of teams now IMO.

Nah WCE are s**t and will continue to be s**t for at least the next 5 years.
We let their great players run around like it was an intraclub match and they turned back the clock and had great games because that’s what happens when you let
Champions run around without close checking.
Just another example of us putting no time into the oppositions best players. Eg: Lachie Neal runs around doing whatever he wants every time we play them, he does it against Melbs for one qtr and they put someone on him 🤷🏻‍♀️

Sure.

They also fielded a team where on average each player had 2 extra AFL seasons under their belt.

That's enormous.

It's so annoying hearing so many media commentators mention how Essendon made the finals last year and now struggling but they completely miss just how young and inexperienced our team is and where in the rebuild we are.

Does anyone in the media ever check how many games Dons players have played?

This is where someone like Lloyd falls over.
He's right in demanding an external review, however he will then call for a Clarkson (messiah complex) and point to teams like Pies who have gone past us pointing to the fact we made finals.
Making finals is about as in deep as what these guys go, no thought, or little Is given to how a team is playing, their draw, their list profile etc.

Parts of Lloyd, including his brain are stored in Caro’s wine cellar unfortunately

Plus they have drafted a lot of hard working types with the mid range and rookie picks. Some worked out others did not but they where mainly vanilla and hard working in their position.

Big on questions. Not so big on solutions. Spends too much time listening to coterie group members.

We seem to hate the ‘high workrate, high production small’ as a type

I thought at the time that making the finals was the worst thing we could have done.

Imagine a timeline where we didn’t, and finished somewhere around 12th.

It would have been seen as the first ruttten rebuild year, another year with a high draft pick, more time turning the list over and learning the game plan. This year would have been seen as more of the same, with no expectation to be making finals.

In some ways making the finals could have derailed an entire era for the club and ended trucks career before it had a chance to get going 🛻

Ant.

Can you see a world where our club finally tells the coterie groups to suck it up or take a hike? their interference and dodoro seem like the two constants during two decades of turd salads
