They spent 6 years in a row playing finals and won a flag with Simpson. They fell off the cliff and needed a rebuild. Simpson did not turn them into a basket case.
As an industry coaches stay on too long, should be happy coaching 5-7 years get your era and then move on. Simmo should’ve jumped ship earlier. Itd be like hardwick still being at Richmond while they try to rebuild

Counterpoint.

Why, if you have a good coach should you move that person on?
Why can't a good coach be given a chance to rebuild a list, change a game plan, evolve with the game?
What is the reason to move a coach on if they are a good coach?
From a pure statistics point of view, if you have a good capable coach you are more likely to get a worse coach if you move them on when a list is maxed out.
The comp is built to drain the talent out of a good side over time pushing you down the ladder to reload. I don't know why you would punish a coach for that.

Yes there comes a time when a message gets stale in a club, and a fresh start is needed, I think clarko and horse got to that point.
Hawks have lucked out and got an extremely capable coach, who is no guarantee to get them success, and the jury's still out on Cox.

Disagree with this. I think if signs/indicators are there of improvement, then there's no need for a coach to leave a job that he's dropped everything in his life for. There are only 18 positions to fill and no other league to go to. It's a niche industry in terms of a career. It's based on the situation and not all improvement is linear, for some clubs the aim is to win a flag others it's to rebuild. Things in footy take a very long time to course correct, throw in variables and it can stretch out.

However in extreme situations, like having a club generally considered as talented but not winning games/getting thumped where even PR masterstrokes can't save you, then often times club hands are forced into flicking the switch to save face/buy time.

i think the main issue with carlton's side is that, beyond the top 4 (TDK, Weitering, Cripps, Curnow), the rest of their list is shockingly mediocre. I personally don't see it with TDK, either. I think he's a servicable ruckman, but compared to Xerri (who monstered him so bad his family had a sook), Cameron & other bigger bodied players, he gets toweled up.
Missed this. What did the DKs have to say about Tommy v. Xerri?

I agree with this counterpoint. It doesn't necessarily need to imply the coach should leave too.
There could be plenty of other factors influencing results that have nothing to do with the coach. If anyone should be aware of that angle it's Essendon supporters.
Staleness of a coach, in combination with narcissism or a lack of humility, can make the need for a ground-up rebuild stark though. Port have left it too long I think. If they'd moved Kenny on and given Carr the keys last season for the pre-season, the middle to senior players might have been reinvigorated. Now they look like they're in a holding pattern and playing for a club in a holding pattern. Longmire / Cox did it better.

I’m talking about coaches who have coached the era and it’s coming an end, get out and move on the next job instead of sticking around for a few years and then getting tossed out with your reputation tarnished anyway. And you wouldn’t be just leaving a job, if you’re a premiership coach you will always have clubs chasing you. There’s usually at minimum 2 coaches who get sacked/ leave per year, if you’re a coach that has had success you’ll be first call on any job. Who do you think Carlton will call first if they move on Voss, it’ll be Adam Simpson.

Remember the fake crowd noises during covid? No doubt they've kept them going.
This is the first time I’ve watched free to air tv this year so haven’t watched a 7 game. I’m sure the Cattery doesn’t generate that sort of hum. Maybe I’m just losing the plot though 😂 It’s not like it’s spoken about anywhere else.. if you know what I mean?

They 100% are.

Our game vs Sydney a couple years ago, they accidentally played a cheer again from the crowd a good 30 secs after a goal was kicked and the commentary team played it off saying "Oh the crowd must have just seen the replay again".

Now I’ve noticed it the whole thing has become distractingly irritating. If it’s the real crowd then it’s a weird mic set-up they must have.

I prefer the VFL mic setup where you can hear a mum cracking it at their toddler who is choking on a sausage roll.

It’s raw, it’s earthy, and above all else it’s real. Makes you feel like you’re amongst the patrons.

This shit wouldn't happen on MAFS
