Hall of Famer
Think the sliding free kick was paid against the Carlton player because he led with his foot.

People might talk about how good the umpiring was on Friday, but in my view it was shithouse. Made crap players able to get away with a lot of bullshit, and then made the few decisions they did make even more influential by being plucked randomly out without consistency. I would rather a consistent fair contest rather than them changing how they umpire the game in such a drastic fashion.
That 50m to white was a joke. The non free to Stanton was a joke. The sliding free to us was a joke. Etc.
Also: Looks like the final two spots in the eight are for WC, Carlton, Adelaide, Richmond and North to fight over. I have a big gap between the top 6 and the last two. Collingwood has a great fixture from here and should easily make it, as should we. The other four - Freo, Sydney, Hawks, Geelong - are the real contenders and should lock away the top four unless one of them falls in a heap / we get on a massive roll.

They should use that game as the baseline.
Here is what we want to ignore; show the technical stuff,
Here is what we need to fix; show the Stanton, betts and sliding rule
This is the rule we want to start enforcing; holding the ball examples. Have to award the tackler.
This was the best umpirered game for the round, of you look at wce/saints game they tried then started paying crap. Just got to hold their nerve.
Only if the tackle prevents disposal or causes an illegal disposal and where was prior opportunity (such as when Judd got Zaharakis in the last).
My absolute pet #1 umpiring hate is when they reward someone being tackled for buckling at the knees and falling forward (having been tackled while upright), drawing an (incorrect) in-the-back judgement. Dempster on Priddis being a prime example. In that instance, the tackler should always be given preference.
Do you mean surprising that Giesch has done that, or that noone's mentioned it?I can't see that anyone has commented about Hirdy getting a phone call from the Giesch to let him know how they'll be umpiring in the upcoming game. I find this a tad surprising.

I liked hearing that Carlton were robbed because of the non-goal to Garlett, yet the Stanton free (actually towards the end of the game) and the non-review-goal to Betts don't get a mention. They were alright FN. Jeffrey was hopeless, but the other two were alright. Stanton getting his head ripped off at the end of the third with no free pissed me off, but they were pretty good
Mad props to the boistrous West Adelaide fan.
I have no idea what this means but I'm recording the game and am about to go watch it.

You'll be able to hear it, haha.
Classic stuff!
