Can anyone answer a question I have, one that formed in my mind last week and then based on last night I decided needs to be asked:

Why is Marc Murphy captain of Carlton?

Last week at 3/4 time and again last night he left someone else to do the talking after the players had split from the coaches. Last night it was Carazzo, last week it was Simpson.

A skipper is meant to inspire by his actions, lead by example, make his men follow his example and do everything they can for the cause. Pretty pathetic I reckon, and something he'd want to address asap.

Thankyou.

I spent ages trying to work out how to articulate what I was thinking, that fits the bill perfectly.

Simpson should be their captain imo, though if you look at last night for candidates they don't have many at all.

I'd also be shocked if any of Essendon, Fremantle, Geelong, Hawthorn, Port Adelaide or West Coast miss the finals. That leaves 2 spots for the rest, with Sydney and Richmond/Gold Coast/North the likely chances.
Not sure why you're putting Port and WC above Sydney, North, GC and Collingwood, TBH. WC haven't played even half a decent side, and Port is young and will have a lot more work put into them this season. Beating Adelaide and Carlton isn't exactly hard either right now...

Collingwood? Spare me.

I'm not saying they're necessarily better teams (although in Port's case I definitely am) but I think they'll win more than enough games to play finals comfortably. Sydney probably will as well, but they haven't played at all well yet, and if North turn up next week there's a real chance Sydney could be 1-4 given they have Freo the next week.

I think that glut of teams from 9-16 will take a heap of games off each other, and WCE and Port will capitalise by comfortably passing 11 wins.

I have Carlton, GWS, St. Kilda, Brisbane and Melbourne as pretty confident wins for WC. They'd still need another 4-5 to make 8th, let alone be sure things.

I'm not saying they wont make it, but it's way too soon to look at then as having a top 8 place with their name on it.

I've been having a great laugh while reading the Carlton board but I still notice that they type Essendon with a * at the end. Can we do something similar maybe Carlton% because they are only good for a percentage boost.

Idk I'm just thinking aloud.
You'd honestly give them the satisfaction?

I couldn't give 2 shits what Carlton supporters think of Essendon, but I do know that it pains them no end to be on the receiving end of a shellacking from us like last night.

I was thinking the same thing last night. I look at him and I just see someone who, whilst a good player himself, doesn't inspire at all. It's all in the body language and the eyes. Jobe for examples stands tall, is intense and ready. Murphy on the other has a worried look to him.

I don't care just thinking out loud, as long as I get my two free slabs from my best mate each year who is a delusional Carlton supporter makes me happy.

Between now and the end of the season, they have the following games at Paterson's:

Port Adelaide
Fremantle
GWS
North
Gold Coast
Fremantle
Sydney
Richmond
Collingwood
Melbourne

You'd be hoping 6 wins would be a pass mark from that lot. That allows two losses to Freo, a loss to Sydney and a loss to Port, for example. That takes them to 9 potential wins.

Add in games away to Carlton, Collingwood, St Kilda, Brisbane and Adelaide where they'd be 50/50 at worst, and favourites in 4 of them and you're looking at 13 potential wins without factoring in any upsets or teams dying off (Gold Coast in Rd 23 may be done and dusted by that point for example)

They don't have to be particularly exceptional to make the finals from here, all they need to do is put away the bad teams, hold their own against the middle teams and maybe nick one result from the top teams.

A Carlton loss, a Carlton loss to Essendon, a complete Carlton capitulation to Essendon, free beer, the look on your mate's face when he hands said beer over.

No need to think out loud. That's winning enough right there.

I put my asterisks in their name, thankyaverymuch.

But the % is a nice touch, yes. Maybe a ( to represent their fearless leader arching his back in a desperate quest for a cheapie.
I demand the league reprimand the bastard for staging!

The funny part is that Carlton* is the one with the asterisk.

* played finals in 2013 without making the eight.

Upsets go both ways. If they take what's on offer they're a fringe 12 through 6th side like a few others.

I Agree

Carazzo - Captain.
Simpson - Vice Captain.
