You just know that if they falter during the season the Hun have a pre-built headline.

LEPPER COLONY

'We now return to our feature movie, Lepper in the Backfield'

One thing for sure is that Melbourne will be way more competitive under Roos it's just a matter if they can play like tonight for the whole season.

They will probably play 1 more game in 2014 at that level and it will be against us.

Was Richmond near full squad? No Sook in the forward line and the mullet missing. That's all I saw missing

Melbourne were missing viney, Dawes, Clark, Hogan, (ruckman forgot name) and who else?
Richmond also without Chaplin and King at least.

Richmond also without Chaplin and King at least.

With Melbourne not having basically any key forwards and King being utter tripe, that's basically full strength.

I wouldn't even have King in their best 22 anymore

LOL NAB challenge.

The number of peons who write off a team based on a single pre-season game is quite astonishing.

Just remember, Carlton won a NAB Cup in the same season they went on to win the spoon. It means virtually nothing.

Forget the team performance, I would be worried watching the young guys who have big wraps on them being beat in all the 1 on 1s time after time.
like McBean tonight, it just puts things back into perspective, but is also a bit deflating as a supporter.

Melbourne were always going to be up and about for this game. Even a close loss would have put them in a better place than all the thumpings they had last year.

I would assume that last night added another 5-10,000 to their membership drive......and honestly, good luck to them. Now that they've won the first game, I would be expecting Roos to pull out the big guns for a hearty tilt against the cats. Again, they may not win, but if they can get close it would buoy the supporters some more.

Without the NAB cup and crappy country games and only two lead up games before the season proper, any fluff pieces you can get based on performance is a boost for the lower clubs on the table at this time of year.

When Melbourne does do some damage this year I don't want to hear about how much of a genius Paul Roos is. Sure, he is a great coach but he basically does common sense things and understands that they have most of the required talent at their disposal.
