Cannot watch other teams win finals over and over while having Essendon sit on a 12 year drought, having never seen them win a final. I just feel so envious. I wish I could follow the entire league and be grateful for good footy like others can, hopefully that'll open up once the boys snag one.

So ummm I think I'm the curse and not doss. Last time Hawthorn did not win a grand final was 2012. I was overseas.

Next time Hawthorn wont win a grand final, 2016. I'm currently overseas.

Shall I revoke my passport now?
Cola won the grand final when you were last overseas. Your name is pepsi.

Think about that.

They've done my head in this year, Hawthorn with all their flukey close wins and a totally undeserved top-4 spot. I went to the game tonight because I wanted to wallow in the pleasure of their demise and boy oh boy was I glad I went. That was glorious dogs. Just glorious. Hawthorn can get ******. Coll and Carl are called the filth and the scum by Essendon fans. I hereby coin the term "the vermin" for Hawthorn. And the vermin have been exterminated.

Anyone hoping that the Dogs don't get in are apostate and addled in the brain. The Vladspawn are tolerable but c'mon. Seriously. This is an entertaining team with all the requisite chuzpah.

Anyone but Sydney or Geelong at this point for me. It's going to be Geelong isn't it? Yes it is. Damn.

But still, what fun.

Dogs or Adelaide for mine. What the crows have been through and still in contention is remarkable.

It's just great waking up knowing Hawthorn are out and are slipping down the list. What a great birthday present, and it's not even my birthday.

Bye before the beginnng of the finals - I was in favour of the move because it gives each team the chance to rest, and be 100% cherry ripe for the finals - Halfway through the finals and I like the decision - Hope it continues.
If the swans get beat tonight top 4 teams will be calling for it to be gone next year.

I reckon it definitely gives teams in the bottom half of the 8 a better chance of making the GF.

I'm not as confident as some that we're free of the Hawthorn yoke just yet. The whole point of their system is actually quite moneyball-ish in some ways; they have seemingly innumerable people who can play a particular role, and do it well without necessarily being flashy. That won't change overnight.

Losing Hodge and Mitchell, when it happens, will hurt, but then if they gain the other Mitchell and O'Meara can get fit, then you've gone some way to replacing that. Indeed, positionally, Gibson may prove as hard as any of them to replace and he probably doesn't have long to go either.

Where they fell down this year, ultimately, was the drop away in their hard edge. Their contested possession numbers do not lie. Maybe, just maybe, they lost a teeny bit of hunger too.

Either way, I'm just glad we'll see a premiership other than Hawthorn. I'm on Footscray for this year.
