I really ******* hate the term 'the contest'.
Well you see the game is 'won or lost in the midfield'. That's why you need a 'clearance specialist' preferably with a 'basketball background' with 'elite disposal' to feed it out to the runners who 'spread' and deliver to a key forward. He marks the ball 'at the highest point' after 'creating separation' and avoiding the 'closing speed' of his 'direct opponent'.
He takes a 'shot on goal' (not at goal) to apply some much needed 'scoreboard pressure'.
You win the match. At the 'pressa' the coach talks about 'defensive structure','time in possession in the forward half', and 'pressure on the ball carrier'. After fielding questions you can hardly hear on the TV from journos wearing stuff you wouldn't wear around the house the coach gets up and walks out.
So much footy speak has crept into our great game in the last 3 or 4 years. It takes a bit away from the game I reckon.
