The problem with this is that you can’t apply fines equally. When Lance Collard made homophobic comments last year, you can’t really fine him that much because he’s a first year player (and therefore doesn’t have as much money).Massive fines, education, public apology, contributions/attendance to community outreach programs/donations ect.
Suspensions should be for football acts, this wasn't a football act.
All players can serve suspensions but not all players can afford to cop massive fines. It’s because of this that I don’t agree with the idea of reserving suspensions for football acts. If someone does something really bad
(like racial/homophobic abuse) then you give them a harsh sanction. I imagine that not allowing footballers to play football lines up with the idea of harsh
I would argue that community outreach programs/education should be implemented with suspensions not instead of them.
