The whole point was that we were trying to get Deledio - another injury prone older player. None of us know who said what to who first - the fact is we wanted him - at a certain price. To deny this fact and hypothesise on who spoke to who first is getting away from the whole point of my post that he was a target and as proven would have been another huge mistake on our part should it have gone through. Ablett is also looking that way. When will we learn?

So you concede. Good.

I ask myself the question, when will you learn?

I don't concede anything - he stated it as a fact that Richmond approached Caddy. This is not a fact and a hypothesis - the fact is he ended up leaving Geelong so what makes you think Geelong had no interest in letting him go? This is a what came first situation - but to deny that discussions were held about Deledio and Caddy is delusional. Both ended up getting traded from their respective clubs - the only issue was the value each club placed.

So now you're saying Caddy's manager is either mistaken or a liar?

I'm going to say yes he isn't being totally truthful about how the talks went down & whom approached him about the trade:

Doesn't seem that Geelong was necessarily the one to initiate talks with Caddy or put him on the trade table. It's always interesting to listen to and read the stories from players & clubs before, during & after the process because the stories do change at every step.

Ultimately, he went to Richmond because Prestia went there and called up his mate. Same with Kersten & Hamling going to Freo - it was something that Kersten was looking at and once he was pretty set on it during that season, he spoke with his best mate Hamling & asked him if he wanted to make the move back west also, so that they could play in the same side again

That is my reply to you from the previous page which includes an article stating: Richmond approached Caddy about being involved in a trade for Deledio, that Caddy had also spoken to both Richmond & his management prior to him going on holidays and Geelong said that Caddy was not offered to be part of any trade for Deledio but to get Deledio a player would have to be traded to free up cap space.

From the it would seem pretty clear that Geelong was keen to retain Caddy but ultimately the talks from Richmond & his manage is what got Caddy thinking about his options. Add in his best mate going to Richmond and that is why he left - not because the club put him up for trade because they didn't put him up for trade at any stage

Didn't we dodge a bullet with Deledio - what makes clubs so obsessed with these injury prone players? How often does it work out - seems to be it goes wrong way way more often than it goes right. Richmond got future 1st round and 3rd round pick - what a steal !!

The fact our club was offering up Caddy as part of the Deledio trade is scary and worrying.

So in 25 posts it went from your bolded "fact" to a retreat to "we were trying to get Lids"

One is a statement of opinion, listed as fact we offered up Caddy - and then when it went pear shaped it then became we were trying to get an injured Lids.

The inaccurate statements as fact never cease to amaze me, as does the wiggling when called on them.

It is also a statement of opinion that got posted as a fact that Richmond approached Caddy first instead of Geelong mentioning his name when expressing an interest in Deledio. We don't know what came first or the full packages offered - all we know Caddy left us and Deledio left Richmond so both were on the table or else they wouldn't have gone anywhere. He was still contracted to us so we in no way had to move him on. Clearly we valued Deledio a bit less than Caddy for a straight swap or the deal would have likely gone through since it was US who approached Richmond first about Deledio.

You are beating a dead horse. Listen to what Caddy's manager had to say last October a full year after Caddy departed Geelong

https://omny.fm/shows/trade-radio/peter-lenton-on-nab-afl-trade-radio-1

and see if you think it's simply a matter of opinion that Richmond approached Caddy in the first instance.

Yes, we all know that Geelong were interested in Deledio and yes, many supporters are relieved that we didn't sign him but you are wrong to say that Geelong put Caddy's name on the trade table; it was Richmond.

Take this with a grain of salt if you want but I'd heard from a mate who knows someone at the club that Geelong were keen to move Caddy on before that trade even started.
Bad attitude, bit of a dickhead and didn't train hard enough.
Just what I heard.
I know he's on fire at Richmond but I'm still glad he's gone and we got Parfitt.
Don't think he would of ever improved at our club.

I like this rumour. I agree with your last point.

The only thing that is hard to believe about it is they were willing to sign him up on a decent contract just a few months earlier. They couldn’t have been that concerned unless his behaviour went downhill quickly...

Don't know about his behaviour, but in the medal the MC rated his performances as pretty poor in his last season with us.
