Melbourne's mids are all different versions of the same player. One-paced accumulators with questionable footskills who all want to play the same distributor-type role. If you had one or two of them you'd be happy - on an individual basis they're decent footballers - but they don't seem to complement one another. None of them are really what you would call "receivers" you get that first or second handball after the stoppage and burst in to space. Furthermore their midfielders don't kick goals, so there's no one capable of picking up the slack when their forward line is misfiring, hence the extent to which they've been exposed this season.
Thats an interesting observation ... pretty much the same group as last year..

I think it doesn’t take much to tip a very good team to being a not so good one. But the magnitude of their demise suggests something bigger at play. No idea what.
Entire club got ahead of itself. Been in utter denial all year listening to them after their losses (and subsequent response next week). And they just don't look fit and well enough prepared.

Talking after the game against us about how much better they were in certain areas, this and that. They were ####ing atrocious! So much so that I wasn't really sure where we were at. The defensive efforts and goals they were allowing is possibly the worst we will see all year. Carlton are working a million times harder when they don't have the ball.

Also don't like the mix of the side (like a few going around at the moment - Dogs and Norf). Not big enough up forward but also not small and quick enough either. Very samey all over the park. If you're going to be that way you have to be prepared to work your arse off and hit targets. They aren't prepare to do either. Not moving then bombing it.

Riewoldt injured again:

FILL-IN Richmond captain Jack Riewoldt is set for another stint on the sidelines, with a right knee injury spoiling his return to the field on Wednesday night.

The Tigers' injury woes continued when Riewoldt left the ground for good early in the last quarter, after a wrist problem kept him out for the previous three matches.

"It's his right leg, so his good leg, (and) it's a PCL-type injury. We're not exactly sure of the extent of that but he'll miss some time, unfortunately," Hardwick told reporters.

"How long that is, we're not exactly sure. We'll get some scans obviously done pretty quick, but it's disappointing.

"He's worked incredibly hard to get back, and then to hurt his other knee … is really disappointing, so we're hoping for the best but he'll obviously miss some footy."

Loving Cam Mooney on K-Rock as part of the calling team.
Is giving great technical insight and isn't shy to say what needs to be said, pulling no punches is the Big Hairy Cat.
Missed it but cant wait to get him on one I can hear.

Fair enough people getting stuck into the Demons, but when Tigers are on and hungry, they are the team to beat. Their manic pressure and ability to hassle opponents and just run all day is phenomenal. I hope they can't keep it up. Injuries keep happening- that could be their limiting factor this year.

Maybe. Can think of two examples in recent years of sides taking a massive stumble backwards after showing a bit of promise though.
It's just another reminder of how quickly footy moves these days. Changes markedly even within seasons, let alone year upon year.

They now look to have huge issues at both ends. May and Lever might (should?) help significantly when they return. But their forward line looks mediocre at best now. And I'm not sure where the improvement is going to come from in that part of the ground over the next little while.

So, while I won't write them off, it's not beyond the realms that 2018 does end up becoming the outlier. And that Goodwin finds himself on the outer as a result.

The arrogance of thinking they no longer needed hogan looks completely stupid now. Good Kpf’s are so hard to get. You don’t trade them away cause you suddenly think we don’t need one now. Paying the price, and they can’t get him back now.
Freo are laughing all the way to the bank on that one , was all most a straight swap Hogan for Neal
And considering KPF are harder to find that's a massive win

Demons have turned into utter garbage.

They have made the biggest mistake in history by trading out Hogan. That is gonna set them back a lot. Their forward line is non-existent.

Petracca looks like a slow fatty.
Hogan had too many off field issues. Trading him was the right call although I never would have on traded the pick for May.

Hypothetically, if Riewoldt gets suspended for his chicken wing, but he's also out injured - is the suspension served concurrently with his injury layoff?

Or do they wait for a player to get back to "full training" before making them serve?
