I remember how everyone thought Coll were unstoppable in 2011 and yet, also Geelong 2008, Melb last year after round 10 etc
True, but there have been times when teams considered unstoppable at round 10 went on to win the flag that year too. It's a long season, and a lot has to go right for any club to win a flag. The Pies are in as good a place as anyone to do just that. But we'll wait and see what happens.

Not ideal but surely Xavier has to know there’s only one man on the mark.

Unless he's switched off to it as he thinks the umpire is talking to someone else

It's a good example for why umpires should maybe just stick to calling out a player's number in those situations

For someone as dumb as Xavier, that still gives him a 1 in 2 chance of getting it wrong;)

I am not saying they don't deserve to be favourites right now because they do but history has proven many times favourites at the half way or so don't always win and in more cases don't.

Surprised it doesn't happen more often, particularly with the bottom teams who just throw random young players into sides at will.

Collingwood are as well placed as any team in recent years ...... that includes Melbourne who got off to a flyer last year. There's a lot to like about the way they play, and everyone on that team just seems to have bought in 100% to what they're doing. A terrible run with injuries to key players is all I can see getting in their way. Well coached - some very good players across most lines - and their form over the last year and a half of football is outstanding.

Geelong at their best is about their biggest barrier on the way to a flag. But Geelong getting somewhere near their best seems a long way off right now.

It's Collingwood's to lose, and I suspect I'll be saying a similar thing heading into finals.

But (as I said) in some cases do. So anything right now is just speculation. How about we just wait and see how it all plays out.

Here are the teams that have started 10-1 or better in recent times.

Melbourne 2022.
Melbourne 2021 (premiers).
Geelong 2019.
West Coast 2018 (premiers).
North Melbourne 2016.
Fremantle 2015.
Port Adelaide 2014.
Hawthorn 2013 (premiers).
Geelong 2013.
Geelong 2011 (premiers).
Collingwood 2011 (GF).

Actually there are more teams that didn't make the GF than did make it after having a blistering start.
Curious to see the back half of the season stats.

Sounds like the kiss of death - how many rounds until Voss is gone:

Amazing to put this out there, given the trajectory they are on right now. Many of their fans are going to absolutely explode if they blunder through the rest of this year, and then everyone's expected to just saddle up for another season under Vossy's direction in 2024.

It's not just their footy that is all over the place at the moment. The public messaging by virtually everyone you hear from is naive at best and downright silly at worst.

Surely you simply say, 'We remain firmly behind the coach and feel very confident that the team will turn this around.' Anything more than that was always very likely to become a millstone.

To be honest, it's just a loaded question from a journo
