Sydney are very unimpressive. Flag race very much alive.

It also has a fair bit to do with the size/strength of the player.
Umpires in all sports will often overlook the biggest strongest players, subconsciously they assume that they can look after themselves. These guys only get the obvious frees. A classic example of this was Shaq in basketball, by the letter of the law he was fouled nearly every time he touched the ball, but the refs would only call it if he was mauled. He was refereed differently to most every player in the nba.
Hawk being a massive unit who could dead lift the grandstand didnt help his cause with the umps. He is umpired very differently to someone like curnow who allows himself to be moved off his spot pretty easily. It also helps if you play in the air a bit more because any contact is exaggerated. Again, this worked against Hawk who rarely left the ground for the last 2/3 of his career.

We were in trash form when they were red hot and we still kicked the first 6 straight. I don't mind drawing them in a prelimIf Sydney start like that against a good side in finals it will be a repeat of the Port game
Their ability to absorb pressure, which was intense, and then to finish them off WAS impressive imho. It's what premiership teams do.Sydney are very unimpressive. Flag race very much alive.

Their first quarters are a concern, but a week off before finals puts every team in the same position.
The depth of their list, and getting Papley and Warner back, and guaranteed home final puts them in a great position.
The impressiveness of Lions and Dogs was diluted a bit last week, and then there's GWS and Port, also both in great form.
Who knows about the Hawks, and how far they can go.
Then Freo- will they even make the 8?
No comment on us until post game tonight.
I don't think you can concede first quarters the way they do and win finals against good opposition. We'll see, but they pull that against a top 4 side in finals they're done by quarter timeTheir ability to absorb pressure, which was intense, and then to finish them off WAS impressive imho.
