Sounds like a few here wanted decisions going Demons way. If the commentators were not ballistic, pretty certain the umps were reasonable.
Respect your opinion VD, but from where I was sitting, the Demons got a raw deal.

Typified by that free in the last where the Roos tackled a Demon clearly without the ball and got a free kick for doing so.

Anyhow, I think the umpiring standard has slipped considerably.

Possibly true, but never would the umps favour NM over Demons or any other team for that matter.

Brisbane, Sydney, Hawks, Carlton, freo, Suns, Melbourne, Richmond, Essendon, collingwood, north, can't win the flag.
Got it down to 7 for you :)
Swans and Bombers can win it. A lot would have to go nearly perfectly for them. If they beat Hawks next week or 2, that is curtains for Hawks if it isn't already.

They did today. I didn't care who won but Nth got the rub of the green today.
Thought towards the end of the third was the worst.
Also if you have a look between the FK differential of last year between us(last) and the dogs(first) there is literally no way it could be possible without umps favouring some teams.
We would have to belting people every 5 mins to be accurate.

Forget the maths with regards to games left and points up for grabs. None of them are good enough to win two finals (if they even make it) nevermind four.

Yeah, the Bombers are better than I thought but if that midfield wins a premiership I'll eat an actual bomber jet.

Swans could probably win four finals though? If they work their way into last years form then I think they could be good enough, and their strong contested style will help them match up against teams like us or the Crows.

Ess can beat any team. Talent is not the issue. They have no real weak area. Only cohesion and fitness.
No need to remind anyone what a rampaging Swans team can do.

And which 2 teams apart from Lions are you excluding? Not the 2 that have beaten us? And Blues are ok today as well.
My number was a bit of a throw away but I would say Brisbane definitely aren't playing finals and Hawks, Suns and Blues unlikely. Everyone else is capable of at least playing finals

If Freo can get over Carlton then they'll finish the round in 5th, just in case you needed a reminder of how weird this season is. It is admittedly being helped out by Port having the bye, but who would have seen them in the eight at all?
Freo ( with a win - which is now a certainty ) they will leapfrog about 6 spots up the ladder

If Gil has his way then at this stage of next year every team would be a chance of playing finals with the 7 v 9 and 8 v 10 proposal (if I understand correctly) to be played in the week before the finals begin. From a purely sporting point of view it is simply wrong that half of the teams in a competition get to play finals. Soon we'll be looking at more than half. It's not about sport but rather money money money.

Talent not an issue? They haven't got a single top-shelf midfielder. They're basically the reverse of Collingwood, good at either end of the ground but terrible in the middle.

Half their list has been out 12 months their fitness will crash come finals no way they win the flag for that reason.

Brisbane and hawthorn will be bottom 2 and carlton and north will probably drop to 15/16 once their kids tire.

GC aren't consistent enough to win a flag, melbourne lose too many games they should win and still have major list holes.

Collingwood are way too inconsistent and have too many plodders to win it.

Sydney are the only team that have the talent to come from outside the 8 and win the flag but they are so far back they wont finish higher than 5th/6th so they would have to win 4 finals interstate which is a huge ask.

St kilda dont convince me, freo are decent but their key position stocks are average and they have no ruck other than sandi at 33-throw in the number of kids they have its unlikely the pieces will stay together for them to win a flag.

Richmond have always failed in finals and that won't change with their current group. WCE will play finals but cant win it as they cant win at the G.

Realistically it's out of us adelaide gws and maybe port.

Adelaide are decent flat track bullies but the last 2 years have consistently failed against top sides. They would need their first 2 finals at AO against soft opponents to build up momentum-if they have to play a prelim against a top team away they will fail.

GWS are playing really average but they have heaps of injuries and the talent to dominate in finals if they get it together.

Port attack really well but are very inconsistent-they may well get opened up in finals.

I am far from convinced we will win it as we are so inconsistent but by gee it's there for the taking. There are no class teams this year its pretty average.

Nice analysis.
BUT, you have neglected the probable winners imo. Doggies.
They were really good Friday night, despite our 120 tackles and super-intensity, and their dysfunctional forward line played together for the first time this year.
5-4 is where they were last year, and Roughead is about to come back in. Wallis is a massive in for them, and Liber will improve.

Can not agree.
Heppell, Merrett, Watson, Zaharakis, Goddard, Parish, McGrath..Whoever they had last week and this week, they've done a great job. WCE have a decent MF, maybe. We are meant to be ok

I agree with that that - as happy as i was with the win - on a big ground in dry conditions they will be hard to beat -they havent got holes/defeciencies in their side that other teams( most of the leading contenders) have got .

However they should be belting sides like Richmond - not falling over the line by a kick - and they couldnt beat Freo in the West . The bye before the finals basically gives 8 sides a chance to set themselves up to win a block of games to win it .

Thanks i forgot them. Look i would rank them as a genuine contender i still think they have holes (eg no ruckman) but if they can find form in the run home they are definitely one of the teams that can win it.
