Can not agree.
Heppell, Merrett, Watson, Zaharakis, Goddard, Parish, McGrath..Whoever they had last week and this week, they've done a great job. WCE have a decent MF, maybe. We are meant to be ok
Merrett I'll grant you, that was an oversight. Don't see how any of the others are more than just decent, though. Good enough to fill out a midfield but they're nothing compared to the quality of depth you need to win a flag.

Agree. Their midfield is good and will get better and better given the youth of Merrett, McGrath, Heppell and Parish for starters.

Half their list has been out 12 months their fitness will crash come finals no way they win the flag for that reason.

Brisbane and hawthorn will be bottom 2 and carlton and north will probably drop to 15/16 once their kids tire.

GC aren't consistent enough to win a flag, melbourne lose too many games they should win and still have major list holes.

Collingwood are way too inconsistent and have too many plodders to win it.

Sydney are the only team that have the talent to come from outside the 8 and win the flag but they are so far back they wont finish higher than 5th/6th so they would have to win 4 finals interstate which is a huge ask.

St kilda dont convince me, freo are decent but their key position stocks are average and they have no ruck other than sandi at 33-throw in the number of kids they have its unlikely the pieces will stay together for them to win a flag.

Richmond have always failed in finals and that won't change with their current group. WCE will play finals but cant win it as they cant win at the G.

Realistically it's out of us adelaide gws and maybe port.

Adelaide are decent flat track bullies but the last 2 years have consistently failed against top sides. They would need their first 2 finals at AO against soft opponents to build up momentum-if they have to play a prelim against a top team away they will fail.

GWS are playing really average but they have heaps of injuries and the talent to dominate in finals if they get it together.

Port attack really well but are very inconsistent-they may well get opened up in finals.

I am far from convinced we will win it as we are so inconsistent but by gee it's there for the taking. There are no class teams this year its pretty average.
I think you can make a case for all that.. but id say we are easily comparable to WC. Im yet to be convinced we can win in the big games at the G. GWS are sort of shaping up as this years dogs. Coming of the rest before the finals , they will freshen up and be very dangerous if they finish top 2 and can play at their home ground.

I'm intrigued by the reaction to Buckley following the weekend, the man is obviously under pressure.
They were playing a struggling and undermanned Hawks... if they scrap and it is close all game and they win by that margin he likely still is under pressure.

Does a big comeback ease the pressure for the manner in which they came back?
Does the pressure get increased for the fact they got so far behind a struggling team?

Listening to Collingwood after the game it really felt as though the comeback put a band aid over their issues, don't watch Collingwood enough to say if he is a good or bad coach, but they wouldn't want to many more performances like the first half on Saturday.

They are just so inconsistent, they play like champions against us, push GWS to the line, then lose to Collingwood and give Hawthorn a 7 goal lead, hard to really tell whats going on.

I think the AFL have lost themselves in their own spin or they take us all for fools.... IF the umpire has not called play... its not play on yet. Geelong players have been done for going before its called.
....

THE AFL umpires boss has supported the decision not to pay a 50m penalty to Richmond’s Dustin Martin late in Saturday’s heartbreaking loss to the Giants.

TV footage indicates Giant Jeremy Cameron went over his mark to smother Martin’s kick for goal.

But Peter Schwab on Monday night supported the umpire’s decision.

WATCH THE INCIDENT IN THE VIDEO ABOVE. DID JEREMY CAMERON GO OVER THE MARK? HAVE YOUR SAY BELOW

Schwab said the umpire erred by not calling play-on but in any case, argued Cameron did not cross the line of the mark.

In a complex explanation, Schwab said: “The umpire should’ve called play-on quicker.

“But there’s a couple of things involved, one was in that part of the ground, which was the last third of the ground, the actual bloke on the mark doesn’t have to go east-west. He can go off on a line tangent.’’

That AFL.com umpire appreciation show is garbage. No matter what the controversial free they bring up is, The umpire boss always comes out and supports it publicly.

It's pretty inevitable. No matter what mistakes an umpire makes he can't publicly condemn an ump or he's drawn a huge target on one of his own to amplify the overblown criticism they already draw in the course of a normal game.

I would be shocked if their internal discussions look anything like these pre-prepared deflections aired on the leagues website.

And I thought our boys were the only team that sometimes beat themselves.;)

Seriously, though, I read what you wrote but I knew what you meant. That loss to the Tankers after thrashing us was shambolic. And I'm not sure how much credit you should get for falling seven goals behind a hopelessly undermanned Hawks outfit.

Bucks still massively under the pump for mine.

How he must wish his Pies could play the Cats three or four times every H&A season...

Looks like all the bad luck the Hawks have missed out on over the last 5 years is arriving at once. Isn't it just wonderful? Shame to see players injured. Not a shame to see the Hawks suffering. Long may it continue. :D

Hadn't occurred to me sooner, but it's interesting that the top 6 all play each other this weekend. Good result for us in a sense, it'll either give us some seperation from a West Coast or Freo or keep Adelaide or GWS only ahead on percentage. I'd probably expect Adelaide to beat Freo and West Coast in Perth to beat a wounded GWS, so you'll likely have Adelaide clearly on top then GWS/WCE/Us one win behind then Freo another down. But how crazy if we end up with 1-5 all on 7 wins?

I know they're depleted but I think GWS might snatch a win over there. SJ on recent form isn't really a loss and they are the one side with Mumford, Cameron and Patton that aren't *too* weakened by losing a key forward/ruck (Lobbe). WCE have already had close calls at home against WB and St Kilda. Neither team's form line has been that convincing but I think it's a decent chance for GWS to get a big win on the road.

Like you said though, very good weekend either way for the Cats.

Did you watch last week's Pies/Hawks game last week with your partner Cataholic?
Certainly did :D

Mind you, I'm careful with what I say, but don't miss an opportunity. Absolutely choking on her bile that we're winning while they're as competitive as a paper clip in a gunfight. Filthy as.

Ah, life is good :p
