I'm about the only person not in our leadership group: Selwoods, Blicavs, Duncan, Dangerfield, Guthrie, and Taylor.
Just like Adelaide without Danger, I almost wonder if a few games without Selwood might not be a good thing - he sets such an incredible standard that (perhaps unconsciously) others feel they cannot match it. So the reliance gets built into the ceiling they set for themselves. Guthrie, for example, went off like a rocket the first game without him, because he needed to.
If we are going to go from very good team to contender, we need players like Duncan, Guthrie, Motlop, Hawkins, Scott Selwood and Zac Smith feeling like they need to take responsibility for getting the win, rather than just doing their job/supporting the stars. Because at the moment our veternans and newer players are for the most part doing a terrific job, so we are avoiding the "bottom six being vulnerable" that is so often spoken of.
We have a very thick group of supporting cast members in defence, in particular - forwards not so much.
