Big Stef's retirement hit me a bit more than others. I really liked him.

Loved how he competed when he was 'short' ;). From all accounts an absolute great person, and I guess he'll be moving onto something with his stellar brain next ;) Whatever is it, I wish him the best of luck with the next stage of his life

So close to an All Australian with us too. Nic Nat took the chocolates at least once when I think Stef was more deserving. Forget which year.

I can't help but comment on the St Kilda board just creaming themselves over the return of Ross the Loss.

Seriously I like his analysis on FC, though he is so obsequious towards Fat Head Eddy it's creepy.

The guy shows all the signs of early onset dementia, I'm only saying this because I have seen my mother go through it.

Should be good for a laugh though.

Edit: "Even more has changed since Lyon last led a team to the finals, the Fremantle side of 2015. Lyon's Fremantle teams won just 29 of 87 games between 2016-19, even with the likes of Nat Fyfe and David Mundy still on its list. He is not a surefire prospect to lead a side to premiership glory at this point."

A lot has changed since Lyon last led an AFL side. Lyon's teams were always known for being stout defensive units, and the league's freedom of movement rules brought in to ease congestion will cause the defensive mastermind to change tact.

I guess that means that he has to be more diplomatic while he is changing tack?

6-6-6 rule is not 18 in the backline
Will need a new game plan not just stack the defensive half.

I can't help but think St .Kilda. is making a major misstep here.

Going back to the old guy with a reputation who's been out of the game hasn't worked all that often over the years. Especially ones going back to a club where they've been.

It's a ballsy move martinson no denying that. If it works, holy crap it's going to be viewed as a masterstroke. It's going to have to work though, because for every slight failure the media are going to be so over it it ain't funny. My prediction.....Cluster**** incoming.

Parkin a notable exception.
Lethal I'd have thought too. When he was first announced as Lions coach, my initial thought "what are they appointing this grumpy old bloke with tired ideas for?"

I've been wrong many times my life, but possibly never more wrong than that.

And it's back to the future for the Saint's lmao

Not sure how this will work out for the Saints.
Ross Lyon coaching record below.
Average wins for the last 4 years of coaching 7.25
Has not been a senior coach for 3 years the same period Matthews had out of the game
A big gamble for the Saints but not many left in the coaching pool with AFL experience to select from

On a positive side, in his previous 8 years coaching Ross Lyon made the finals each time including 3 grand finals

There are exceptions to every rule. Lethal was a premiership coach who'd been out of it for 3 years and was still only 46.

Let's be honest , in hindsight he inherited one of the best teams of all time , he admits that freely. It wouldn't have mattered too much who coached us were we able to replicate the culture that too his credit he brought in.

Matthews and Parkin are 2 of the greatest coaches of all time and in their second stints were still in their 40's.

Ross must be 56 or 57 . I hope they have some success because their long suffering fans deserve it but I can't help but think they haven't done a thorough DD throughout this whole process. Ross has issues as everyone knows and it's critical who comes in as his backups.
