There are exceptions to every rule. Lethal was a premiership coach who'd been out of it for 3 years and was still only 46.

Let's be honest , in hindsight he inherited one of the best teams of all time , he admits that freely. It wouldn't have mattered too much who coached us were we able to replicate the culture that too his credit he brought in.

Matthews and Parkin are 2 of the greatest coaches of all time and in their second stints were still in their 40's.

Ross must be 56 or 57 . I hope they have some success because their long suffering fans deserve it but I can't help but think they haven't done a thorough DD throughout this whole process. Ross has issues as everyone knows and it's critical who comes in as his backups.
In the US mid 50s is nothing.Their coaches seem to go on for ever .Given the rise of assistants, no reason we cant follow the same path.

Not sure how this will work out for the Saints.
Ross Lyon coaching record below.
Average wins for the last 4 years of coaching 7.25
Has not been a senior coach for 3 years the same period Matthews had out of the game
A big gamble for the Saints but not many left in the coaching pool with AFL experience to select from

On a positive side, in his previous 8 years coaching Ross Lyon made the finals each time including 3 grand finals

Malcolm Blight:-
Yes his last year of coaching was 2001 with the Saints (3 wins) after 1 year out of coaching
His overall coaching record is good
2 flags in 3 years with Adelaide
At Cats for 6 years for 3 GF appearances and 1 PF
Only other stint was debut coach at North with only 6 wins before moving to the Cats

In my opinion his career just indicates you may be a good coach but you need good players to get finals success
I think Brad Scott got good results from an average list like when he was at North
Going to Essendon he once again gets an average list but possible more upside in 2 years than when with North

If Fagan is unable to coach in 2023 someone is going to inherit a good list

Ross’ final hurdle was making sure he’d get every cent of the 3 years, even if things go badly,I imagine.
Sound about right
But if the Saints are like the Lions and are being propped up by the AFL it is different
The AFL changed Coaches payout limits to just 6 months for clubs relient on AFL assistance

Could be something in there about not being able to be removed before 3 and a half years which ensures he won’t be left short changed

Suns pursuing Hannebery, trying to lure him out of retirement. After their delisting of Markov yesterday and unusual trade period, their list management is questionable to say the least.
Really?

Every time you think that franchise is on the right track they do something else that saves you from that thought.

There are other teams?
Wasn't he done before he even got to Saints.

They'd have been better off going for Tom Mitchell

Hannebery at his best was a top line player. But that was probably five years ago now. Would he be depth? On-field coach in VFL? Hardly seems worth it for either party. Perhaps they think there is one last shot at getting his body right.

I'm starting to think the Suns are the football equivalent of "Springtime for Hitler" from The Producers. An intentional failure so someone somewhere can launder money.

What did they do now
