I don't recall the previous incidents so it seems that this time it's become a much bigger deal in the press / social media. With the entire AFL condemning it perhaps something will be done this time

Butters and Jonas clashed heads last year and neither were out for the mandatory 20 min concussion test:

Im pretty sure they had a suspended fine from last time too. So they knew they were on watch for this. Which makes it even more concerning

I've seen it mentioned that this is the 3rd time Port have done this? I'm not sure what to expect though, with it being the 3rd time they should be raked over the coals. I doubt they will be though
The chance to slap an interstate club, who happen to be a genuine contender? Trusting.

Jeez, Port's thing is starting to look like systematic negligence and medical malpractice on a Dank scale.

Surprising that on the back of that young Hawks player retiring today and in numerous interviews with Lions players when asked about Marcus Adams that they’ve barely sighted him or don’t know how he’s going even more intriguing as to why no announcement has been made about his future.

I personally wouldn’t be that comfortable if he somehow came back next year.

The Port doctor/s involved need to answer some pointed questions on this stuff, doctor's seem to be held up as being immune to criticism, don't agree they are human like the rest of us and not infallible. eg. the Essendon doctor during the drugs saga.

I wouldn't assume Port are alone in this

Possibly not but they seem to be way more blatant about it than any other club. I hope we have seen enough of the terrible outcomes from it to be better as a club

How does it play in with delayed concussion symptoms? Marcus Adams played out the entire game and didn't show any symptoms until after the game. Is there a chance it was the same with Aliir?

Marcus copped a huge hit but wasn’t knocked unconscious. Allir was. The doctor was negligent in allirs case and either didn’t assess him at all or did but didn’t follow the afl rules.

It was reported that Allir was not assessed at all.
And that collision was "how to get a concussion 101"

Like if someone had passed a concussion test after that the only responsible conclusion to draw was that the test was inadequate.

Putting to the side momentarily the grievous disregard for player safety, and heads should roll for that, this whole Port concussion saga really, from a competitive point of view should be treated in the same way as any attempt to gain an advantage. It is in effect cheating if every other club follows the protocols and takes players out of the game when there is suspected concussion but one club does not.

The randomness of concussion occurring and resulting in players being ruled out, is a competitive variable of the game in the same way as the weather, umpire interpretation of rules, the bounce of the ball or the randomness of any other injuries. The application of the rule may help or hinder your team on any given day. One club has behaved to gain an unfair advantage by choosing not to be bound by the rule put in place for player safety. Whether done intentionally or whether sheer and let’s face it, astonishing incompetence, it is nevertheless an unfair advantage for the team that does not abide by a rule of the competition.

Port deserve to suffer stern consequences for endangering players and the potential that doing so might give them an unfair advantage over the rest of the competition.

Damian Hardwick is going to inherit a bloody good list when he takes on the Suns job from next season, I like the look of it now plus they are going to get 3 of the top 10-12 kids in the draft this year via the academy.

I suspect next year they’ll do a Lions of 2019 and who knows from there, but wouldn’t surprise me if Hardwick will do what Fagan can’t at the Lions.

Like Fagan though, I reckon players at other clubs will want to come to the Suns because of Hardwick being there plus being in that premiership window.

What I’ll be interested in is the calibre of assistants Hardwick will be able to entice unlike the Lions being able to get anyone of note.

Calibre of assistants is a good point and a major reason for Hardwick's success. But that doesn't neccessarily mean that the best or most promising will want to go to the Suns. Hardwick has been a bit flakey over the last couple of seasons so for mine the jury is out on his chances of success there.

If you sit back and do a deep dive of the 2 lists I reckon you would find that Gold Coast have more out and out talent than we do.
So to that, if Damien Hardwick can not take the list to Glory there is something wrong with him as coach.

Currently no, as a lot of it is still potential talent.

But in the not to distant future, they’re potentially going to have the most talented list in the competition. If they can keep everyone they want to keep.

Also, a lot of that comes back to us going a year early on Neale.

I’m not criticising the trade, but we compromised on David Noble’s strategy of going to three consecutive drafts with strong hands.

We should have one more crop of players from the 2018 draft, which we don’t have.

I think it was the right call at the time, we had 3 key players that you would of for all expectations been out starting midfield by now of Rayner, McCluggage and Berry. Which you would of bet on being a deadly midfield trio at the same level as Petracca / Oliver / Viney.

It hasn't really panned out that way unfortunately. Maybe it still can.

None of Berry, McCluggage or Rayner showed they were a dominant inside mid at junior level.

Berry showed the most as a general defender. McCluggage was dominating as a goal scoring outside mid slash winger, while Rayner was a damaging general forward.

All had skills that might translate to a top line midfielder, but none of them had actually shown that as a junior player.

I think it's hard to say it wasn't the right move though.
