I think one thing we as a clubs fans need to do is refer to ourselves and other clubs outside of Victoria as non-Victorian rather than interstate. Referring to ourselves as interstate (unsure where you live) when the Victorians are interstate to our club just makes it sound like we (and others) are lucky to be a part of the VFL rather than it being a national competition.
Fair point. I live in Melbourne and clubs are usually referred to as ā€˜interstate’ rather than ā€˜non Victorian’. From my perspective ā€˜non Victorian’ seems more parochial,I guess it depends how you look at it.

The media (which is understandably based in Vic) really pushes the interstate rather than the non-Victorian. Though it feels like us and Sydney have one foot in both given our history.

ETA: I know it is only a small language thing and isn't going to make much of a difference if any. But much like when the umpires got the wording changed from 'overruled' when an out of zone umpire paid a free kick, I think it just a small thing that the AFL world as a whole needs to change for the reasons I said previously.

PS: One thing as a WA based Brisbane supporter which used to shit me as a kid was when my membership pack came it was the membership stuff (such as a small flag or something similar) had Victorian Member written on it. Used to drive me insane as a kid because I was very much a WA boy despite defecting from WCE to the Bears as a 6-7 year old in the 90s.

Amazing the difference in reporting by the media between interstate clubs and Collingwood. Bailey copped a deluge from the media about his accidental head clash against Carlton and ended up with a week because of ā€˜ the potential to cause injury’! On that basis DeGoey should definitely be suspended, but of course it won’t happen. The inconsistency is pathetic.
And also highlights what a conflict of interest Christian has being an ex one club player of Collingwood. There is no way he can be impartial being mates with its CEO and connections at that club - and he is completely swayed by the Vic media mafia who'll go hard at players like Zac Bailey who did nothing, yet a bloke like De Goey should be looked at and media bias kicks in with these journos - it really is disgusting.

Magpie Jordan De Goey has escaped with a fine following a risky bump on Adelaide's Josh Worrell.
While no players were obviously injured or concussed on the night, De Goey collected Josh Worrell high with his shoulder as he went to close space and smother.

The knock was considered a careless bump, low impact and a fine, costing the Magpie a $2000 fine however granting freedom to play in Collingwood's upcoming Preliminary Final.

Seriously what is the difference with Bailey’s suspension. The Carlton player wasn’t injured or concussed yet still got a week, so how in gods name is that different to De Goey, other than Christian’s bias or the colour of the jumper or the state they’re based.

I also distinctly recall them saying g Zac has other options to bump, well so did De Goey. I mean De Goey hits the Crow way harder and still gets nothing g.

As NB said, it is seriously rigged.

De Goey's was far more dangerous than Bailey's.

Whether neither warranted a suspension is moot but you can't do one and not the other.

Michael is armpits up with the Boy's club.

Moreover he's been in that role far too long , which is basically money for jam , it's time they turned over a few of these jobs and got some fresher focus and impartiality into the process.

Unless it is a Lions player i just tune off to any decision the MRO makes.
However, i will say one thing, players are idiots when it comes to using or attempting the bump.
Hopefully none of our players are idiots for the next month.

You can always find justification for a decision when you have a formula mixed with a grey area being the player gets injured, or escapes injury.
The same applies to when players get off for a similar incident.
We have never had consistency at the MRO. It is what it is.

As long as there are enough fines to pay Christian's wages the AFL probably don't care.
The AFL thrives on controversy. No such thing as bad publicity in their eyes.

Apparently DeGoey was attempting to smother. System and the **** who oversees it need a massive overhaul.

Can't see much improvement coming while the current Dillon is running it

It’s a DISASTER for the AFL Elixuh.

It’s like journalists who have kpis for clicks and stories about real estate dot com. The vfl media is just blind support or rage baiting vfl supporters

VFL media will be licking their lips

Assuming GWS don’t come back odds on for a Victorian premier for the 15th time in the last 18 years.

Clearly the biggest problem in the game is the northern academies.
