GC and GWS both still have to shed a lot of talent, and money from the salary cap. Suns players especially we should continue to eye off. After being here a few years, if they are settled, a move to Brisbane will sound better than another state.

From the telecast, it looked as though the attendance at Cararra was bigger than last week with more Power fans than Lions last week. Would that be a fair observation CtD?

Hard to tell...... Last week with the rain and all, I think there were more in standing room etc last week which made it a little deceptive.

Certainly before the game Carrara seemed like a ghost town. Still amazed that a ground that supposedly hold 25,000 can have so many empty seats and a crowd figure of 11,300 and fell like 175,000 when you try to get out:p

Ahh, I didn't factor in that point.

Just saw this, another knee injury some AFL players cannot take a trick. We've had our fair share, but the cruellest IMO occurred to Pat Garner. Just had rotten luck. Bard Boyd, Cal and Stakes wouldn't be far behind:

DANIEL Menzel's terrible injury run has continued, with the luckless Geelong midfielder to have scans on his troublesome left knee.

Stunned with how well Port are going this year. Is Hinkley a master coach or will the bubble burst soon enough?
They've beaten the bottom 3 teams from last year and a very badly out of form Adelaide in a showdown which are usually close anyway. They've improved but a couple of injuries or bad losses and the wheels will fall off again.

They aren't as good as they look. As noted, they have played the bottom teams, so even they should have got out to at least a 2-2 start. They have some confidence and their tails are up, but it won't last forever. Like in any game, momentum shifts, and Port are no different. The telling fact will be how they respond when they do finally drop. People aren't expecting miracles from them, if they can remain competitive even if they lose, then they will set themselves up well going forward. If they lose it completely they will undo the good work they have done at the start of the season. Sounds familiar...

Agreed. They've been really good... when the opposition hasn't been able to put sustained pressure on. Even Adelaide failed at that when Port got their run on. We'd probably lose to them at the moment. But at the moment my gut feel is that they'll still be about where we are at the end of the year. That's still something like six more wins than they had last year though!

Having said that, their next two games are against an out of form West Coast and a Roos team that currently seems to set out to find ways to lose (I may regret that statement later today). They could well be 6-0.

Traditionally the Lions have done ok with Port at the top of the ladder;)

I somewhat agree; but can you only beat who is in front of you. I think people also underestimate confidence too. Irrespective of who they have played, not only the players, but the club and now the fans feel confident thinking they can now beat anyone; so I'd give them every chance to start knocking off better rated sides.

Funnily enough, the excitement and expectations currently ay Port, both on and off field, is actually what I had hoped would occur at the Lions this year, so I am somewhat jealous in a good way at what Port are experiencing. Not to mention they have a coach who I wished we had of snapped up a couple of years ago and now they also have a President that is putting them back on the AFL map. Not to mention a resurgent membership.

This is not an attack on our club, but I don't think as a club we would be considered a relevant club in most footy circles. That bothers me. I appreciate we are in unique market etc, but I fear once Brown and Black are gone, we will be even less relevant in the AFL landscape unless we do something soon, particularly in regards to arresting our declining support base.

Me likey! That opens the door enough for me to confess I'm of the belief that power can finish top 4 - [can check the quiz questions, Port not one of the 11 teams I selected for the Lions to finish above ;)]

Melb have just got the most flukey goal, which has put them within 7pts only, yet hardly any enthusiasm at all from the players.....if ever there was a time to do a Browny by throwing the arm in the air and charging with great determination towards his players, this was it for them..

..but nothing. It was only seconds from half time, but nevertheless, should've been more excitement and "cmons" I thought.

I don't mean to highlight the Dees' woes, but this was taken from the textt commentary on Match Centre

SUBSTITUTION DEMONS The Dees have injected Davey into the game, at the expense of Viney.
I mean come on guys.
