Hearing the news that Marc Murphy has renewed his attendance at Princes scummy Park, I was wondering in a sliding doors situation, if he had taken up the father/son option n played with us.......how would he be viewed by the footy world.....would he have enjoyed his footy more or less.......what impact would it have had on the Lions success/culture wise? I realize it is all guess work but interested in your ideas?

... and the you tube clips of him squibbing would have been watched by less people (although more painful to us) ... oh and our third round pick would have been Murphy instead of Rhan Hooper.
(although in true sliding doors fashion if the first of the three PPs in 2005 had *not* been him who would Carlton have tanked taken instead and all of the follow on ripple effects?)

There are other teams?
Interesting read on the AFL site about Hannebery and how far he has fallen in output.

It may be that his role in the team has just changed a bit but he certainly isn’t the force he was several years ago.

Never quite reached the level they would've hoped for. Was probably only a couple of seasons where he was really dangerous.
More a victim of commentator overhype if anything. Bruce sadly turned him into a meme.

A very good player nonetheless.

Less goals per game than Milne, Stevie J, Betts or Le Cras. Only kicked more than 40 goals in a season twice, never more than 50. Defensive pressure was better but I don't think he was as threatening to tear a game apart as those guys were.

Apparently the Rioli retirement might open up enough cap space for the Hawks to get Lynch and Sloane. In addition to Mitchell, O'Meara, McEvoy, Frawley, Gunston, Burgoyne and Impey.

Clearly the salary cap and draft system isn't doing enough to equalise the competition.
Sadly, I think that's spot on.

The clubs that were good/strong during the GC and GWS expansion years have just kept rolling along ......Hawks, Geelong, Sydney.

Free agency has also aided and abetted their "top up" philosophy whilst most of the weaker clubs (like us) suffered substantially from the acoompanying compromised drafts. Moreover, who (of any star quality, free agent or otherwise) wants to come to a struggling "Northern" club when the crowds and the glamour and the Premierships are in Victoria?

Unless somehing is done to alter the current paradigm, our comp is going to get more and more like the EPL.

Cyril was a fantastic player IMO, to go with goals he got he was involved in a multitude of scoring movements, his ability to tap on to advantage was the best I have seen. In defense nobody had better closing speed, his perceived pressure alone in the forward 50 caused panic in opposition ranks. The best 10-20 possession player I have seen. Loved watching him play, farewell and good luck in the future Cyril, you will be missed.
