Sorry to say he has no aggression not good in the contest and no chase or second efforts. Thought it was just not wanting to be at the lions but change the jumper same result.
I think it is one of the great considerations to take into account with drafting key position players - they have often had a natural head start through junior football and their teams pre-draft tend to be able to utilise those advantages quite well. If they don’t have the mongrel in them though, at the AFL level it can get really hard. There is no easy contest, complex patterns, constant pressure from big tough defenders and no time to rest because of the speed of the game and the requirement to play a defensive role that might be quite unfamiliar.
Even the ones who play a lot against men pre-draft have a lot of adjustment to make at the professional level. All those lovely natural advantages they had from as far back as under 12’s sometimes disappear quite quickly and all the skill and will in the world doesn’t overcome a lack of natural aggression.
If I compare Hipwood and Schache it seems quite easy to see that in practice. And Hipwood himself still has some work to do, especially defensively.
Schache could still be a handy player but honestly it will just get harder each year to build that instinctive aggression into his game.
