Have loved the play of Mitch Clark. Early NAB 1 he looked rusty and worked his way into it. Tonight he dominated and showed why he'll be such a good recruit as a genuine marking threat up forward and a genuine go to guy in his own right. It's exactly why I wanted him so badly on the Collingwood list but having missed out on him you just have to wish him the best both in footy and life.

Cockatoo was also terrific and along with Clark really is making those Geelong recruiters look good. I'd only seen one of his AIS games and that grand final preview last year to base my evaluation of him on, but he'll absolutely blow my rating of him out of the water and become one of the absolute best from this years draft class. Terrific guy who just loves playing footy and is a worker which is just a joy to watch in the most talented young guys coming in.

TradeDraft don't stress about players not picked by Collingwood succeeding. There will always be guys in the following picks or later in the draft turn out better than the guys we took. That happens with the sheer number of players picked and you see it every year with every team with pick 1 overall almost never the best guy taken on draft day. The greater the success Cockatoo has the better with Cockatoo someone who is so special that he will draw people to the game, what is critical for Collingwood is that our new recruits develop. And De Goey and Moore. I feel strongly they'll both be terrific in their own rights as Cockatoo likewise looks like he will. Sure we could use Cockatoo's pace and special talent, but we can use De Goey's contested ball winning ability and marking ability forward of centre and Moore's talent in the front half. They're all early picks for a reason but you can't have everyone. We've done well again this past year through the draft and it's the thing as a club we still continue to do best, so don't worry about opportunities lost and just look for those next opportunities for guys to recruit based on need as I was doing with Jeff Garlett, Mitch Clark, Reece McKenzie, Connor Blakely among others last year, but instead with guys who will be available this year. To get things started I already have my eyes firmly on Josh Dunkley (son of Andrew) who I believe Sydney through father son quite possibly may miss out on.

:mad: Making me even more Pissed Off

Regarding Clark he chose wisely in going to Geelong. The reality of Collingwood with Beams, Ball, Lumumba and Maxwell all leaving an 11th placed team is why would you want to join that? And on a team that struggles to keep guys productive or healthy past 30 at that. My view is Mitch chose wisely and made the right decision for him, and it's not a bad thing for him to be away from the Melbourne media in the quieter Geelong. My feel, turning down Cameron Mooney for the post game interview is that Mitch just wants to get away from the media circus and media spotlight and just enjoy his footy without distraction and good for him finding that place.

He'd help a hell of a lot to what Collingwood are doing and he is doing everything and more than I hoped he would. But not everyone will always want to go to your club during trade week. When you're not up the top of the ladder generally players aren't going to choose you as their preferred destination. But good on Collingwood in pursuing him over the off-season. While we're poor in identifying and evaluating opposition list talent but Clark was someone in my view we evaluated correctly as a worthwhile recruiting choice and someone who obviously with his contested and 1v1 marking ability would take pressure off Cloke and make Cloke again able to dominate and not deal with constant double teams as he has to deal with when Reid isn't used/available for selection in the front half.

Like with Cockatoo it's just terrific to see Clark succeeding and getting his life on track. The fact that it's not at Collingwood? Only if we were in contention would I feel displeased with his decision. So I wish him all the best.

So, Soon as Geelong came in the Picture we had no hope what so ever.

Surprised he even thought of Joining Collingwood in the 1st place knowing he did not want to be in the Media Limelight

Collingwood from a media perspective may have been challenging for Clark in that perspective but none the less had Geelong not made an offer all indications are he would have signed with Collingwood. We were the first (and only club) to want Clark initially. Clark was from all reports keen on what the club had proposed and wanted back in the AFL in a different situation and Collingwood was that different situation.

Just Geelong in the end also put their hat in the ring and decided they also were interested and would have proposed similar, and with Geelong from a win now perspective a more appealing destination, Clark's decision shouldn't come as a surprise given he is in his late 20s and wanting to be part of a successful team. My feel while I obviously don't know him personally is that he wants to be on a team that is making finals, and Geelong look the more likely team over the next 3-4 years that Clark is in the league to achieve that, though I'm sure there will be many on this board who will debate that.

You left off a couple of other important points - he knows the coaches, (Scott & Lappin) & Geelong pulled strings at Deakin.
No doubt they would have played the "relative" anonymity card.

That is what I hate is that Cats came in at the last moment and Knicked him just before we offered our Deal to Clark

Oh I'm sure thats how they rationalised it.

But think of it this way: you sack a coach with the highest winning percentage your club has had in recent history, following a 2nd place (H&A) finish in his first year, one kick off a Grand Final. That year was followed by losing his best forward to an ACL (Walker) and a very good second banana in Tippet. Now, I can understand that expectations would have been high, but realistically what more could the coach have done in that position?

Last year, the Sanderson coached Crows had 11 wins last season missing the finals by just one game, despite all the injuries. Furthermore, under Sanderson, they managed to maintain the 3rd best offence in the competition last year, despite having access to walker for all of half a season.

I had heard earlier in the year that Sanderson was hated and despised by the playing group and that his days as coach were numbered - I thought it was a bit dubious at the time because the Crows seemed to be doing alright - but my source turned out to be correct.

Cameron McCarthy is looking the goods. Seems a very good set shot.
