I seriously think he needs a kick in the nuts to get him going again. I was at the game yesterday, barely broke out a jog when he didn't have the ball. His disposal is completely off the boil (when he actually gets the ball) and is trying to do way, way too much. Has been all year. Sometimes it works, like the match against Sydney. But yesterday, admittedly in a team of passengers, he had no impact. I expect to be flamed for this, but it's just my opinion.

Well people wanted Jack dropped a fortnight ago and then he kicked 14 in two weeks. Dropping good players is not the answer.
Martin is a 20-year-old baby who has probably been caught up in the hype. Needs to go back to basics and concentrate on doings the smaller things.
At this stage of his career, he is a forward who should be pinch hitting in the midfield. Not the other way around.
I'd play him at full forward this week if Jack doesn't come up. He is quite capable of kicking five or six this week as a forward.
Reminds me a lot of Tom Rockliff.
A no from me to dropping him. Achieves nothing.

Would have been a handy long goal had maric not had that brain fade and tried to take an outstretched overhead mark on the bleedin line....we have bigger concerns than dustin martin right now....move on and narrow the focus to what matters, ike 15 more i50s and for not the first time, we LOSE

What Tugga said. Could he have a similar game to the North game last year? 30+ disposals and 5 goals as mainly a half forward rotating through the middle.

I'm more concerned with Vickery's form than Martin's (Dusty had 20 disposals; only Cotch, Tuck & Grigg had more).

I doubt Dimma would be dropping him with GWS coming up, a bye and Crows away. Best he sits through a video review and works on game I wouldve thought. Quality player.

Vickery was as useful as tits on a bull yesterday. He's the one under the pump IMO. Doing stupid little dancing gigs with a laugh at half time when he (and the team) were playing like millionaires.

Love how the OP gets to claim that this is a "non-reactionary" thought
What a joke of a thread, this forum really turns to crap after a loss
What do you mean? He's been well below par all year, particularly when the ball is in the opposition's hands. It seems strange to me that Hardwick has dropped players for neglecting the defensive aspects of their games yet Martin has received no attention for his complete and utter lack of a defensive side. Before he got away with having offensive weapons that were too hard to ignore (and I hardly mean just kicking goals.) Apart from the Sydney game this year, he's been decidedly average and those offensive tools have been completely absent. No doubt, he will be/is a great player. But I think he needs a spell.

Below par? He's a 3rd year player FFS
He's getting far more attention than he did in the start of his career, plus it is unreasonable to suggest a player of his age should play with the consistency of someone with 100+ games.

we all want him to be dropped but we know that wont happen
Please explain what you mean by 'we all'? Don't lump me in that category.
Dropping him proves nothing and achieves nothing. He is no different to any other 20 year old kid who has played 60 games. Keep pushing games into the kids. It's the coaching staff's mantra and it should apply to Martin as much as it should apply to someone like Griffiths or Dea.

I think he is trying to play himself into form. He just needs to do the basic things right and the rest falls into place. Much like Jack.

He is still playing alright. Just not as good as he can. Is Carlton about to drop Judd? I doubt it.

Whilst I encourage debate, and welcome it - I find the fact that poster's aren't picking up on my completely tongue-in-cheek use of the phrase 'non-reactionary' quite horrifying.
Perhaps we were all too dumbfounded by the thread in the first place to detect any semblance of sarcasm?

Note my deliberate nonuse of the sarcasm or winky emoticon?
