As a neutral, which team do you like more, if you have a preference? And why?

I always kind of liked the Crows, saw them as our little brother. Loved watching players like McLeod, Modra, Ricciuto, Edwards, Hart, Burton etc during the 90s and 00s.

For some reason never warmed to Port Adelaide. Maybe it's because they have the arrogance of a big Vic club being the most dominant SANFL side by far.

Port Adelaide are a club that doesn't know who they are or where they wanna be. They cling onto a history that means nothing in the one they actually now play in. They are Port Power and have been in existence since 1997. All that SA history is in the past and a SANFL thing. So, i prefer the Crows, but they are both the opposition and i don't like any opposing team! I only have a soft spot for the Bombers because i grew up there and played in the EDFL, the rest of them can take a running jump!

Port. You can argue all you like that they 'Started in 1997, nothing to do with the real Port Adelaide etc' - the fact is, they believe that, their supporters act like that, the club admin act like that, and the rest of Adelaide hate them for it.

That's a good football club. I like them. They are hateable (in a football fan sense).

Crows are a cobbled together entertainment franchise thrust into MY football competition without my consent, designed to sell merchandise and maximise revenue.

I prefer Port for a few reasons
I lived for about 15 years in a neighbouring suburb, Semophore. In 2010 when Richmond beat Port in about round 10 for Hardwick’s first win as a Coach, so many of them came up to me and congratulated my team. Of course they were spewing it was against them. Really good sports.

When I got home the day after the 2017 grand final, it was to a hero’s welcome. Gifts of top shelf scotch etc. You’d reckon I’d kicked the winning goal. I felt impelled to inform them that I really played no part in the game at all apart from attending. Didn’t seem to change their attitude.
They really hate the Crows.

Guess you feel the same way about the Eagles and Dockers? Cos we didn't have any pre AFL history?

I mean the whole snobbishness around history was always silly to me. Every club was formed at some point. Being around for longer doesn't somehow make your club more real.

I worked with a guy who would bang on about the powers history whenever we talked footy he made me hate them.
Was very satisfied when I was able to text him at half time when they didn't turn up to play the cats for the 07 flag and say add that to your history.
Ah back when I kind of liked Geelong. That was an enjoyable watch simply for how embarrassed they got. I say if its not a close game the next best thing is a thrashing.

Don't particularly hate Port, more an indifference.

It is an interesting dynamic. I imagine Port fans are old Port Magpies fans (some who briefly may have grudgingly hot behind the Crows in the AFL), and new supporters, while Crows fans are fans of other SANFL clubs and just AFL Crows fans.

In WA almost everyone got behind in the Eagles in the AFL, and when the Dockers came many went over for various reasons, while most stayed loyal. There is some north/south association, but it feels more random these days.

Please hate us.

For whatever reason you prefer.

We realise that in Adelaide, you are either Port, or anti-Port. Ok with that.

It gets understated but Port had a die hard supporter base before 97. The AFL licence just hyped us up even further and a chance to play in a national competition. There is no denying that we are the only AFL club that transcended from a state league. All other franchise clubs were born out of nothing.

I don't doubt that. No WAFL club was that dominant. East Freo I believe are the most successful.

Personally the fact we're about 40 years ago (established in 1986, same year I was) and not 150 or whatever means nothing, but it's cool if youre proud of that tradition. 40 years is a pretty long time, really. Plenty of history and highlights to look back on.

Cool, I probably agree with my original post but can’t remember when I wrote those words lol
