Norf and the IT Age

Read the IT section of the Herald Sun yesterday which had an article on the tecvhnological advances made in monitoring what was happeing on the field and how advanced the procedures were that were in palce for ech of the clubs.....except the pauperoos which does not have an IT section.

Instead of recording the game as played straight onto hard disk as most other clubs do so they can pull out an look at any part of ht eplay at 1/2 time, what the pauperoos do is that they use Greg Fyffe from The Footy Show to do drawings of the action and they look at those at 1/2 time. Trevor Marmanlade provides the commentary for free and they let the two busloads of Norf supporters at the game (as referred to by Marmalade last week) look at the pictures but no word captions with it o/wise it would get too confusing for them.

Rumour is that the president has chipped in so that the pauperoos can buy an abacus.

Actually MB, you're not entirely correct...

The Wayne and a few other Kangaroos players have ploughed some of their pay back into the club by buying vice-presidents memberships @ $8500 each. Among the 50 or so sold, at least four players so far have bought such a membership... so they are helping to pay the bills.

Agreed, there is a long way to go but for reasons outlined in numerous other pointless Roo-bashing threads, the outlook is a hell of a lot better for 2001 than it was in 2000.

Actually, I just found via the AFL website and today's paper that there have in fact been 67 special memberships taken out, so the money raised from the venture is in fact $569,500. Looks like that "corporate tin-rattle" is working.

Have a read of the Herald Sun of 28 march 2001. Norf is the only team that hasnt got an IT area for the football department, but "board member Tim Harrington is kkeping up to date with IT developments" !!!!!

So is the Grade 6 class at Fitzroy North Primary School. Oh well, at least it probably means one member of their board is literate.

I would have thought you being a saints supporter that you would have an empathy with the roos, seeing it wasn't all that long ago that supporters from other clubs dug deep to help keep the saints alive. You obviously have a short memory.

That the Kangaroos can win 2 flags in 5 years WITHOUT the IT section that other clubs have show that perhaps it isn't as important as you make it out to be.

In this case, NOT having one, or only having a small one, is possibly a wise move in light of financial resources.

With this in mind, do you think it's wise to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on an IT section that might not help win any games?

I'm sure that's not what you were trying to do... so tell us, what is actually your motive in talking about the Kangaroos and money? The Reaper's attacks have been getting lamer and lamer as the Roos position improves. From memory he had some "connections" with inside information on how the roos were about to fold (which appear to be just the odd article in the paper here and there). The response by supporters and players to the Roos has obviously disappointed him.

MB and Icon obviously have some heavy chips on their shoulders and this is their way of dealing with it - sad really.

You are an absolute disgrace to your club.

Rather than offer anything constructive about your club, you seek only to denigrate the efforts of a club that is in a similar position to what yours was in 10 years ago.

Tell me, did you sink the boots into Richmond supporters during the "save our skins" campaign?

Did you draw everybody's attention to every single newspaper article predicting a short future for your club?

Did you make lame jokes about your club and taunt fellow Richmond supporters by laughing how they might not have a club in 5-10 years time?

I hope CJH, TigerTank, RF#1 and other RESPECTED Richmond supporters keep this in mind before even contemplating reading any of the hypocritical mud-slinging garbage you write.

As for Norf's financial position, yes it has improved. But when you force your own players to pay $8,500 over to the club, then that shows how silly Norf are. This is b/c the $8,500 paid is included in the salary cap (which Nord are almost over) but is retained by Norf. What they should have done was renegotiated the contracts, kept the $8,500, not lose 10% to the GST and lowered the salary cap pressure.

So much for being well administered. Casey had the right idea to merge with Carlton.

In closing, let me say that I applaud the Norf players for their extremely generous gesture, but they shouldnt have to have been forced into such a position in the first place if some though had been put into the matter over the summer.

The North players were FORCED to buy those $8,500 memberships? In the Herald-Sun, it was reported that the players were encouraged to buy the standard membership. It was reported that over summer, Melbourne, Geelong, and Essendon players all took out memberships of their own club.

As for your suggestions on the salary cap, the new vice-presidents membership only came into existence in the last month or so when the re-purchase of the Carlton owned shares took place. Most of the players' contracts were settled last season, which unless someone has invented a time machine, makes your suggestion look as plausible as David Calthorpe winning this year's Brownlow Medal.

Ron Casey and the merger. Ron Casey was the type of man that would not have started discussions on the future of North Melbourne without consulting the other directors of the club. In essense, you are taking the word of a man, John Elliot, who has had a dubious reputation with telling the truth and has made comments about Ron Casey who cannot put his side of the story to the media.

Last point. Part of the reason why Colbert and McKernan offerred to take a pay cut was due to North's financial position, but they also said that they felt their form didn't warrant how much they got paid. The other thing is that the club turned down the offer, which seems to indicate that the club's cash flows were fine at the time (hence making USC's ramblings from earlier this month look even sillier) and that maybe our financial position isn't as bad as what many wish it to be.
