Companies don't gain or lose value on the stockmarket because their ability to generate revenue changes, their share price fluctuates based on perception of their ability to make money changing. Similarly Norf doesn't affect AFL player salaries because they actually land players on huge contracts, merely by offering massive contracts that are inevitably refused (who'd wanna play for Norf?) they influence perception of players' values which affects their contracted worth.
Beneficiaries of similar phenomona include Alex Prance who made the AA team five times despite rarely defending an opponent, and Glenn Archer who was named Shinboner of the century despite being a slow-witted plodder with pronounced anger management issues.
